Imagine that. Burkha, old sock, kitchen paper. You would probably drop dead from oxygen depletion.

A number of signs in Liverpool were defaced following a debate that they were named after slave merchant James Penny. There is no conclusive evidence that suggests the street, made famous by the 1967 Beatles’ song, was named after James Penny. However, the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool told BBC that it’s researching the matter and will “re-evaluate our display on Liverpool street names and change if required.”

This is all getting totally out of order. Someone needs to clamp down asap. None of this will help build bridges.

So when the Premier League restarts after lockdown it's reported the players will wear "Black Lives Matter" on the back of their shirts in place of their names for the first round of fixtures.

Black Lives Matter is cunningly named. No reasonable person could disagree with the slogan. The problem is that the organisation Black Lives Matter is an extreme left wing organisation with a full Marxist agenda including defunding police forces, dismantling capitalism and the "patriarchal system" and redistributing wealth to its chosen causes.

I don't want that crap for this country and, unless you've had a bang on the head, neither should you.

No matter how I try to look at BLM it just boils down to tribalism in a nutshell, it's close to becoming a terrorist org over there. Why not go with All Lives Matter?

To be fair, racism was a snowballing topic in England for the past year so not surprised to see what footballers of all colors are saying on social media. I fully expect them to go overboard with it but I don't blame them for it, a lot of them are ignorant, clueless and sometimes downright stupid, because in part they live in their own bubbles.

I think we've all experienced doing something wrong and somebody has a go at you, not only for what you've just done but brings up everything you've ever done in your life - a guy spills his coffee, his wife starts with the mess and ends on the affair he had two years ago!

If people have an issue with racism, slave-traders being commemorated, etc. but feel they need an excuse to raise it it just weakens the effect of their message.

Hate to point out the obvious but "Black Lives Matter" doesn't mean only black lives matter? At the moment it's more a case of All lives matter but some lives matter more than others.

And for people to think the fight against racism is a 'fad' is just ridiculous. Thankfully the views of pampered white middle aged traders aren't that representative of the country and the younger generation is more open to accepting equality.

Edit:

Here's a couple of pics of today's "All Lives Matter" protest, all those families with kids peacefully protesting? Doesn't seem to be too representative of All Lives to me

Sure, but you can see how many can misinterpret the message behind the slogan and abuse it both on purpose and on accident.

When you single out one race and say 'that' race matters, you are implicitly saying other races don't matter as much, it's automatically inferred and easier to misinterpret, could have used just one more word.

When you add it all up it looks to me like the message will end up creating more division despite calling for unity.

This thread has gone very off topic, one thing I've learnt especially from this forum is you can't change someone's mind about politics so I wouldn't even bother

Told you guys we're going to need a bigger boat, err thread :D

Don't think anyone is naive enough to impose their political beliefs on a trading forum, I see it all as just random casual comments. Sometimes ranty but still casual. If anyone can manage to get upset over that that's a big yikes.
