I have been searching through the forum tonight to gauge how viable it would be to trade the US racing, I am a fairly novice trader, avergaing about £30 to £40 a day from the UK racing, but I have figured that I could quit my job and go full time trader if I could roughly double this, but just now with the weather and dross thats on offer with Uk racing, its not going to happen for a while yet,

So I have turned my attention to the US racing, and like I say been through the forum quite extensively tonight and have also had the US markets loaded up in betangel with betfair Live video feed.

Its fairly apparent from the board users that the main problems are liquidity and off times not being precise, but watching the races tonight that are on the betfair video, the liquidity has not been too bad, certainly looks tradeable using small stakes, which is what i do with the Uk markets just now, so no change there, and from what I see the suspension times on betfair for the races covered by the betfair live video are quite predictable, ie as the horses are down at the stalls its time to get out, and the live video feed on betfair states that its at least 20 seconds behind 'live' so I am getting a feel from watching these markets of when to get out, so far tonight there have been no nasty surprises, but its only been one night of monitoring I suppose!

Are there any of you guys out there trading these markets successfully, and if so can you give any pointers other than what Ive read/discovered so far, what I am looking for is a more up to date review/feedback from some of you guys to see if its worthwhile even thinking about adding this to my bow!

thanks for reading.

Sounds like you've pretty much got the measure of it.
You need to watch the off times as you say and liquidity is variable but mainly viable to trade to small stakes.

Good man, thanks, there is so much information scattered through the forum it can be hard to find, and also you dont know what's out of date. I will keep an eye on things and then at some point I think it might be an idea to put up an up to date post with a list of dos and dont's specifically for US racing, a one stop reference point for these markets if you like for people that are interested in trading these markets.

Thanks

What about South African racing? At least the time zone is the same and there are live pics during the day on ATR etc. Sadly I have a day job so for the moment I trade mostly football.

I've never got on with US racing becuase of the random start times and lower liquidity. Keep trying but it just hasn't grabbed my attention. I agree that SA racing looks interesting.

Don't forgot racing at Meydan, that can be pretty good.

I make 30.00 - 50.00 a night fairly easily on US racing, althoe i find it hard to trade for such long hours myself, so it's only maybe 3 nights a week when it's quiet in other areas.

AS you said the only real problem is races going off early, Just completely ignore race times imo and be sure to have live feeds where possible which will always have a minutes to post count down in the top corner.

this site is handy also
http://espn.youbet.com/

it has a few live feeds and an accurate minute to post time for many of the other races too.

I've traded the US races on and off for a year or two now. Like Freddy I probably make 30 - 50 a night.

The biggest pain is the off times. I will only trade races that are on ATR and it's important to keep an eye on it because it's very easy to get lost in the market and miss the off.

I've been caught out a few times with early suspensions as well, but over the course, the winners and losers have more or less eveneed themselves out.

Hi,

Freddy & Iambaz for your £30 - £50 a night, what size of trade are you using roughly and over how many races & hours?.

Cheers

i use about a 400-500 bank for Us racing,
but rarely are my liabilities get anyware near that ammount or you find yourself getting into alot of trouble when your trying to exit your positions.

I use small stakes and try and get on at good / silly prices,
you can get some really huge moves on the favorites
even if you only get 20-00 matched ;) .

i just trade whilst im trading on football, so it's just a side line for me,
but i guess i would trade 10-20 races on adverage to make 25.00 - 50.00.
