So, I’ve started again; my nemesis, the siren that is… pre-race.
I’ll just dip my toes in for something to do. Since I’m in lockdown, and working from home, why not, eh….
Royal Ascot T-1: A magnificent day, making the princely sum of £1.91 from £2 stakes, and with a rather handsome 80% strike rate from 19 races!!! Bigger average loss than win, but, feck it; I was King for a day !
Royal Ascot Day 1: A mammoth £4.95, from an astronomical £10 stakes!!! Note: I increased the stakes by a factor of five, and the profits increased by a factor of five… Mind-blowing!
Royal Ascot Day 2: -£19.86 – setbacks pave the way for comebacks...
]Royal Ascot Day 3: -£41.72. Bollocks!
[Re-assessment period. 2 days.]
+£33.23 I’m back…!
+£54.43… with a bang:
-£2.55. well, that’s annoying. You were too timid!
-£219.58
[Re-assessment period. Read on forum that other people did shit on those two days too.. Aha..]
Today, 3 weeks later… £98 quid after commission. Honestly thought it was about 40-50 quid…
Tomorrow I’m hopeful it will be a true 3-figure day, but, better still, I’m confident it will be SOMETHING… as long as I can stop myself losing big in the first few races, which, as I write this, I know I can, and I know I will, but either way I’ll actually enjoy it for a change!
Anyway, I would have quit AGAIN, IF… I hadn’t been lurking on the daily racing threads this last last month (and the forum in general), and then combing this forum with a fine-toothed comb when I lost..
Not only does it restore the confidence somewhat to see on here that others found the day tough, but also seeing that other people did exactly the same the same trade as me, and at similar prices, is genuinely good for the soul.– hmmm, a finer tooth on this occasion, methinks, Watson…
I don’t want to get ahead of myself… I certainly haven’t banished the demons, yet… but, I’m pleased to say, I’ve recently made very good friends with the chap on my left-hand shoulder, who’s often shouting at me:
“it’s a non-starter!; A & B, or C isn’t happening now and, yet, you’re still in…!!!; that’s not a retracement, that’s a reversal…!!!; Damn it, Jim! I’m a doctor, not a competitive handicap scalper!!!”
And I’m now significantly at odds with the chap on my right-hand shoulder who says things like,
“just see what happens as it approaches it your stop loss...; my, that’s a mighty stable graph; it would be criminal not to nick a few ticks…; I’ll just line up my exits here, so they’re in place for when… ; Damn it, Bones; I need answers now!!!”
Thanks to you all, and I’ll see you in the threads; I’ll be the one asking dumb questions about automation

Here’s to a glorious 5,000-strong crowd of punters at Goodwood in August!
