Not much happens on these early races though according to my notes. It's all about the big race.

All set for the big day. Guardian prepared and off to work for me (no public holiday in NSW).
You won't be getting much work done today. ;)

About 3 minutes after the Cup finished last year I wrote down "Surprise Baby". It was 16th at the 400 and finished 5th - in one of the slowest run races in recent (dry track) times. I am a little concerned about it's preparation as it has only had 2 races in the lead up - however, the trainer, Paul Preusker is no slouch when it comes to getting a horse ready and announced immediatley after last year's Cup that he was setting the horse for the 2020 Cup. My cousin's husband is rding Oceanex ($250!!) so I would like to see him ride the winner as it will be as close as that I ever get to winning the Melbourne Cup. Very warm here (about 30 and a fairly strong northerly blowing. Good luck to all.

Had a go in the first at Randwick and decided to save my chips for Rosehill, not trading like a Saturday meeting.

Will be pretty weak outside of the main meeting. Even the supplementary races at Flemington will be a bit soft.

02:20 was a decent market. Somebody was holding the price on the favourite at 2's, easy to oppose.

Checking in. My automation liked that race too.

Beautiful day in Sydney and looks good in Melbourne on the tv.
