...a couple of £2 trades every couple of days seems to be enough but if those happened to be at exactly the same times each day they might not be.
Why do they care what time of day the £2 trades are?

Presumably it's so you don't automate it while you're harvesting unattended, although that could be randomised easily. All i've been told is that there's several factors involved in the automated lock-out system, not just commish. It probably also includes how many market types you're subscribed to and connection duration. If you subscribe to dogs, horses, football etc etc 23 hrs a day and only have a couple of bets on dogs in the evening then that's going to be another negative point on your tally.

I have just been informed that Betfair has closed my account. The reason given is "Exchange market data control", which I presume to mean that I have been running too many simulations and not placing enough bets. I have in fact placed a few bets, but it appears that they are not sufficient to keep my account open.
I am not sure how many years I have been a Betfair customer but it is at least 10 and it seems a very odd way to treat someone, particularly as not prior warning was given.
I am not sure how to proceed from here but I have had a lot of fun and learnt a lot from Bet Angel over the last year or so. Keep up the good work, Peter and Co...

Gotta love the heavy handed no-warning approach they always take to these things. Why can't they just email you first to say "Please adjust your behaviour or we'll shut you down."?

We only ever get one side of the story, so many people hammer the site for data with penny bets etc they need to do something.

Agreed SB but while we all know they have a minimum bet of £2 and we all know we can ignore it we don't know their degree of tolerance! I would often like to use minimal stakes to trial a new system rather than use Practice Mode but I have this fear of upsetting Betfair! Give us a clue, send us a warning ... Don't just say "we don't like you, we are closing your account, full stop, end of, and don't waste our time asking us why"!

I think the scale of the problem is a lot bigger than most of us think so it's all automated and any genuine players simply get a second chance by emailing/phoning. The others simply set up new accounts and carry on with their penny pinching until they get blocked again.

You can appeal if your account is suspended: -

It can't be easy setting up a new account can it? You'd need another ID or someone elses.

No different than matched bettors using 'family and friends'. Depending on where you live those 'friends' might be a lot cheaper I'd guess.

For info, I have appealed and they reinstated my account. It took a while and it was difficult to determine what they deem "acceptable".
