I'm having a few problems too

I didn't report it though because I wasn't sure if it was BA or BF

The data manager hasn't changed in recent versions so there must be some other issue. Probably best to contact support and see if there are some commonalities between people.

enzabella2009, what version you use ? It looks like a big problem , I hardley manage to exit yastarday , this problem tends to accelerate close to the start of the race and while inplay . Could anyone that use BA very often identify if there is BA or betfair problem.

Go to the connection tab and post up your settings here and tell us what connection mode you are using and where you are connecting from, i.e. international. That will help isolate if there is an issue. We are not seeing any problems in the office. We don't have any queries in the support inbox at the moment.

If you tweak settings you can improve performance but we deliberatly don't hide poor Betfair performance, so you can modify settings to improve it. Trying to compare to other software isn't relevant as other people connect to Betfair in different ways and that manifests itself in a different manner.

if you have lots of windows open and pinned on the screen you might not be able to see messages that pop up in some cases. And it seems like BA is frozen. For example if I remove from Guardian more that one market I get a confirmation window which can not been seen at times. I just press right arrow {for selecting Yes} and than <Enter>

Actually that's a very valid point. We have had some people who claim that the software is frozen when in fact it is just pop up box needing confirmation. Please check that this is not the case.

I have abaut 6 windows pinned on my 4 monitors . I installed today fresh copy 1.26.5 version and I hope will solve it . I dont know abaut that reason due to the fact that all buttons are available on BA but pushing them have no effect because what it is actually frozen its not the software but I think the market prices.I didnt have enough time to identify the problem as the stress overwhelming me on that moments . Yeastarday I closed all windows when this problem occur and the problem was still there ,keep trying to push on prices and only after 10-15 seconds prices start to move again only for abaut 2 seconds than frozen again and so on until it actually catched my order and manage to distribute loss. Today I will pay more attention if there is any BA event info window (altough I hope will never happent )

Connection tab :
Dynamic 10
Data Req :15
M%U bets : 350ms
Full market depth : 1sec
P&L : 350ms
Trade volume : 2sec
BA connection smoothing : Medium
Connection : International (usually Tx = 60-150ms)

OK those are the default settings and you should change those to suit. In default mode Bet Angel does nothing clever and you are at the mercy of Betfair's servers. I can use different settings for different markets and trading styles. One for scalping, one for multi markets, one of Aus, one for UK, etc. etc.

The first thing to note is the bottom of the Bet Angel screen: -
R button.png
The big R is the button to press if things hang up and nothing happens and you can't get odds back from Betfair. This breaks the connection with Betfair and starts again. You should only use this if things hang up and you suspect it is the connection to Betfair.

The number on the left is the time taken to get odds back from Betfair. If this number spikes then Betfair / your connection is in trouble. The number on the right is the time taken for information on your matched and unmatched bets to come back from Betfair. If this number spikes then it is taking longer to get that information back from Betfair. The more bets you have matched and unmatched in the market the more likley that the slower this will be as there is more information to be polled from Betfair.

Use the communciations tool to improve or modify the way Bet Angel communicates with Betfair. The two numbers you see at the bottom may influence what you do. Here are the default settings I am currently using: -
my settings.png
Connection smoothing / Dynamic connection mode tuner.

These determine what Bet Angel does if it doesn't get a quick response from Betfair. If you have smooting on full it will respond quicker to a failed call to Betfair. A similar thing occurs on the tuner. I have mine set at five so it never waits long before it thinks a called has failed. If you set it too low Bet Angel will stop refreshing as it will dump calls too quickly and never update. So start high and gradually pull in the tuner to optimise performance. If I am on an Aussie market I have to set it much higher as the call takes longer to travel to the Tasmianian server and back.

Limit data requests. Set this as high as possible, but remember that Betfair will charge you if you average more than 20 a second. If you have yours set too low Bet Angel will buffer calls and it will slow down and only process enough calls to go through each second below the limit you have set. This could make the software stall. Set it high so that Bet Angel will not buffer calls to avoid going over the limit you have set.

To maximise the calls per second you may want to modify the data refresh rates. If some data is more important to you than others then speed up or slow down those rates. You may not want traded volume or only infrequently so slow that down and speed up the unmatched bets or something. If you set all these too fast then Bet Angel will be making more calls that you specify in the data requests area and, again, Bet Angel may stall.

Also try different connection modes, 0,1 and 13 will all exhibit different charactersitics. I would recommend 0 & 13 to see if one feels better than another.

Life was a lot simpler in the past when we had unlimited calls to Betfair but since they started putting limits on every call, we had to get clever. Rather than just assume we know the best settings we have made them configurable and while we realise this could cause the odd issue, we feel it's better to give all users control in this way so everybody has the chance to maximise their connection.

Finally, don't forget more standard things like using wired instead of a wireless connection etc. Also don't forget that sometimes your ISP or Betfair just doesn't perform. On a quick browse of various software forums it seems poor Betfair performance has been occuring this week.

No we are not the same. I just put £80k on the same race without a blip using those settings. It can often just be a case of experimenting to find the best way unfortunately. Even then Betfair can throw the odd curve ball at you. It is important to us that it runs as best it can or else our trading is stuffed as well.

80.000 gbp on a single race ??? That's alot of recycle there !

My problem looks to be solved with stable 1.26.5 version and settings adviced above.
14:05 race went well ,no frozen odds.
