Probably a few have but they've stopped posting.

Not sure I like this dark humor side of you Derek!!
Reckon more like March sometime...just ready for Cheltenham.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 5:21 pmSeems to me that we've blown it. We could have remained disciplined, but the behaviour I've seen over the last month suggests to me that people have become blase. It's not just the new more transmissable variant, it's a kind of incremental dwindling of discipline (or perhaps covid fatigue). The virus/variant is an evolutionary product, it WILL and is exploiting any lax behaviour.
Now we're screwed until the of January. All because of a desire to have a 'proper' Xmas. Utter stupidty.
Some of my family had it. Cousins and 2nd cousins. And a pal of mine that looks after naughty kids caught it. He said it drained him of energy but felt nothing different to a cold or flu. Early 40’s.Dallas wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 2:45 pmTBH I genuinely don't know anybody personally that's had it yet, the closest is my brother-in-laws wifes eldest child (who works in our local hospital) tested positive just before xmas - but I've never met or spoke to her so don't think that counts as someone I know (just know of).
Brother-in-law and wife both had to isolate over xmas but both tested negative on two occasions
Reminds me of this, shame they haven't got the full shetch.gazuty wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 10:47 pmEven though we are generally under 20 cases a day in Australia it doesn't stop the journalists reporting our own situation as if it is the end of days. Top 20 headlines and all the reporting is just dominated by covid19 - for example https://www.theage.com.au/
I'm 99% sure I had it back in October when there was a lot of cases in my area but didn't take a test. I woke up with a sore throat and then experienced symptoms like the previous flu I had - headaches, high/low temperature, lightheadedness and loss of taste - those symptoms started to go away after about 5 days. For a few weeks I could feel my breathing was slightly harder and I had a pretty nasty chesty/dry cough which kept going away and coming back but everything seemed to go back to normal after about 6 weeks.
Smoking for 40+ would be an issue, but that's only because that would imply that you're into or approaching your 60s, unless it's actually caused respiratory issues. The real issue is age.alexmr2 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:24 amI'm 99% sure I had it back in October when there was a lot of cases in my area but didn't take a test. I wouldn't say it was the worst virus I've had, I distinctly remember having a bad virus in 2012 when I had family visiting from New Zealand at Christmas. If it wasn't on the news I wouldn't think anything of it other than a worse than average flu coming along every few years is to be expected. I'm 28 but could see how the breathing symptoms could be worse for someone with respiratory issues or that's been smoking for 40+ years
We have a Paper over hear called the Mirror and without fail just about everyday they run the online story 'New Covid Cases Soar', or 'Covid cases soaring to', but I've seen that even on days when the figures have been lower than the previous days and even lower than the same day the week before and the seven day average is now lower.gazuty wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 10:47 pmThanks for all the feedback.
The reporting in Australian papers makes it seem very dire, hope that is overblown.
"New figures from the Office for National Statistics show 1 in 50 people in England had COVID-19 in the week between Christmas and the New Year. In London, where the new variant is raging, one in every 30 people were infected."
Raging - I'm glad that journalists don't engage in hyperbole and write as if they have just woken from a fever dream.
Good that no forumite has knowingly been infected (and good that Derek now has immunity).
I guess it is just a matter of hanging out for the jab.
I can't remember what paper it is because I usually pass out in the supermarket laughing (might be the Express) but every winter they have the headline "30 days of sub-zero temperatures "; every summer it's "30-day heatwave - 35 degrees plus!". Last autumn it was 90 days of storms.Dallas wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 12:09 pmWe have a Paper over hear called the Mirror and without fail just about everyday they run the online story 'New Covid Cases Soar', or 'Covid cases soaring to', but I've seen that even on days when the figures have been lower than the previous days and even lower than the same day the week before and the seven day average is now lower.
