Has anyone noticed a change in volatility of races in the last week? For last 2 months I have been making what I thought was real progress, mainly scalping and actually making money over that time( with small stakes). Then, in the last week I have suddenly found it almost impossible to scalp. The prices are jumping about all over the place, and I am cutting out because I have no confidence that they not going to go against me. Also, horses that have been drifting( or coming in ) slightly, suddenly decide to make a big move in the other direction, catching me out.
i have had my 2 worst days in 2 months, all in the last week
Is this due to the change in racing from flat to jumps?
or the end of evening racing meaning that everyone is putting more money through during the day?
Or could it be due to exchange secrets subscribers following the "price movements" that are being predicted?
difference in races in last week

I would say 1 & 2 are having an effect, point 3 I would guess not.

"It's because it's a transitional period as you said. You just need to take a step back and adjust your trading to suit the markets, you will see more volatile markets over the winter, less quality and less opportunity."
More volatility means more opportunities though.

When I say less opportunity I mean in general over the winter period, due to only a few meetings a day and no evening meetings.RideTheLightning wrote:"It's because it's a transitional period as you said. What I notice every September is a massive increase in the speed of price movements on the second and third favourites.
I trade exclusively non-favourites, and fast moves have started to occur at rates of around 0.5 second/tick for as many as 5-6 ticks in a row. Not sure about the rest of you but it takes about 0.8-1.2 seconds for my trades to reach the market from the point when I click the button. Being on the wrong side of these fast moves means taking a 2 to 6 tick loss, whereas in more stable markets most of the year I can usually scratch or take a 1-tick loss quite easily.
From some of the trading videos I've seen, some traders can get their trades into the market in 0.4 seconds or less, I'd imagine these traders have a massive edge in being able to limit and reduce their losses in such fast moving markets by taking small losses quickly.

hmm0.8-1.2 seconds seems a long time for your trades to enter the market. My trades seem pretty much instantaneous most of the time, except when I seem to be getting problems from betfair. What speeds are the indicators at the bottom of betangel showing? whats ur upload and download speed?
I have good DL/UL speeds (10Mbit/1Mbit) and my indicators show about 350 to 400 but when placing a trade there's an additional half-second delay.
From what I've read it has to do with being a Betfair international customer and trades being sent to Betfair Malta before being rerouted to the UK exchange, slowing the process down. That would make sense, bet placement used to be much faster a couple of years ago before Betfair implemented this.
