You may disagree with Toby Young - that's fine - but he is a highly logical and intelligent man, not a fantasist. I guess you'd have to be to get a first from Oxford.

I'm afraid you can't shrug his arguments away by dismissing him as some QAnon/David Icke type.

Reminds me off something I read a while back:

He's a decent bloke is Toby Young, evidenced by the fact the left hates him.

Where's the full discussion?

Sure, academics can engage in mental gymnastics that allows them to believe what they want to believe. Like other people, they can be lazy and use System 1- https://observer.com/2017/09/what-is-sy ... you-do-it/ - to form opinions, and then assemble arguments to support those opinions.

That said, I stand by my view that Young is no fantasist. I think that he is pretty rigorous and honest in his approach (though, like everyone else, fallible).

As for people saying that theirs is the 'common sense' view - beware of falling into the trap of saying 'it's common sense, innit?', rather than critically evaluating your assumptions, as what's obviously true to you might not be true at all. You see this in the markets - people make all kinds of untested assumptions about what is true in the markets (which is arguably what keeps the market alive - who would bet if they thought they were just giving money away?), which often turn out to be false.

Hi Frank

Gosh, it's been a while. How are you? Are you still trading these days?

I agree (although I am biased as he once replied to an email I sent him - my claim to fame! ).

He also runs a Lockdown Sceptics website - https://lockdownsceptics.org/

Do you actually have an opinion or do you just like playing devil's advocate?

A. Toby Young is not the devil (and if he were, I'm sure he could pick a better advocate than me!).

B. I think I've made my position clear (and there is no need for the slightly condescending tone - stick to the facts and the arguments, and play the ball, not the man!).

Have a nice day! :D

As I said in my previous post, I haven't watched it. But the very fact that you're comparing him to QAnon/David Icke.....

In the sense that I said there was no comparison!

What are you saying?

In my (limited) dealings with Frank, I've always found him to be a good bloke.

Common sense has nothing to do with what's obviously true. You don't question things that are obvious, like how much you have to stake to green up, but that's only because at one point in your life you did, and had to learn it.

Good thanks. Hope you're well too. Yeah, I still have a bash at the nags when not busy but very much a part-timer these days.

We need some alternative views on the subject. Don't waste too much of your time here though - they just attack you, or your source, or both, rather than argue a case.
