Personally I don't use automation as I see absolutely no reason as to why it should return a long-term profit.
I'm starting to think this... It's as though the market is continually changing, as in daily and no automation can match that change profitably, not unless you have the ability of an AI (like human brain!). So manually trading has a huge advantage there.

There must be a lot of Lt Commander Data's on this forum then!

I'm really meaning the full automation where you go to work (or go to sleep) and come back (or wake up) and see a load of profit. Those who can make this work, great use it all you can but don't be too upset when a 'Hound of Hounslow' fleeces you one night and you're back to square one.
That's what I mean too, full automation. I've just looked how my bot is doing and it's been on the wrong side of all the decent moves to day, so all profit for week has now gone....
1) I can't manually trade, and no longer have the time to do that anyway
2) Full automation does not work
Not much going to be left at this rate... but i'm going to soldier on for the moment with my full automation bot.

I had a go at automation on practice mode one Sunday a while back & the majority of markets ended in profit, I should’ve done didn’t really pursue it but I’m a firm believer that the markets work in a “mechanical way”, so although I fully respect your post I do believe automation can & does work, just gotta put the time in.

Thanks, I appreciate this response. I would say though the new bot I created last sunday, had a great Monday, 90% strike rate, but then everything seems to have changed tues,wed,thurs,... so one day does not say much.
I've put in a LOT of time believe me. Coding is what I am good at. I'm on about my 30th iteration since starting late December. Every evening and a lot of weekend time.

I agree automation does work but long winded to find anything close to making any kind of profit i made a bot to scalp little bits of money from each market and it will start off great then one glitch and a whole days profit gone
Just need to start off very simple and build on that tiny pieces at a time as i find if i start over thinking automation it just goes Pete tong
Its one Giant mathematical problem that needs solving or at least I think it is :geek:

Agree about over thinking, my mess last week was because I had overdone the logic, and probably "fitted" it too much, such that when the markets changed it lost everything.
This week's version is simpler, but still losing it seems!

The problem with bots is they are typically coded to enter the market when "something" happens, but I think typically that is totally the wrong time. For example, breakout with volume, wrong time!
As Peter says you need to anticipate, which means entering when "nothing" is happening, but you need to have a 6th sense somehow that it will probably do something....

Me too I read the markets pretty well also just proves that some days a diamonds and some days are rocks its how we see the markets and not force a trade is key for me as I'm very impatient
