Saturdays :o

I know that will seem really strange to many traders but I no longer enjoy Saturdays. I have been trading for many years and Saturday was almost always the day I looked forward to.

During a prolonged period of illness I spent a lot of time analysing the markets looking for trends. I stumbled across a pattern that kept recurring so I decided to try and exploit it. At first it was a bit hit and miss as I had to tinker with the settings. I then stumbled across the correct settings and watched in amazement as it regularly found good entry points. I expected this to run for a while before the market naturally reduced the opportunity. I am surprised that many months later it is still working. This is not a BOT that does everything for you, it only spots certain entry points and then you have to manage the positions. Sometimes they go pear shaped and you get a loss but long term they are profitable.

Sadly, this never seems to work on a Saturday which is really weird. It also doesn't work well on big meetings like Cheltenham Aintree Ascot etc. I actually need crap racing for this to work - well the crappier racing (is crappier a word  ) anyway as it seems to spot the entry point caused by the volatility.

If someone had told me this about 18 months ago I would have laughed at them. I am totally surprised  by it all but mustn't grumble because the results are acceptable.

Yes you are correct MCFC1981, it is the extra money that changes the characteristics of the market and changes the entry points. I am trying to adjust the setup to work with these markets but currently to no avail.

hopefully you have done well in the last 2 weeks or so, mon to fri. to me they have seemed on the whole not very good at all. did your method for finding entries work well mon to fri during last 2 weeks or so?

as for saturdays its not a bad problem to have, not enjoying them, what with clashes etc, and the possability of betfair playing about with their system un-improvements.

if overall you enjoy your trading, one unenjoyable day out of 5/6 or 7 days is not bad. if you had a proper job, you might like loads of people dislike evry single day. :)

Hi to75ne

Yes I have done well during the last couple of weeks. I still get the odd tricky day but the bigger mistakes come from my lack of speed in closing a position. As with most trading you occasionally get caught by a large spike so I don't moan too much.

I read about people getting fed up with the rubbish racing and whilst I also an early member of that group I decided if there was a negative there had to be a positive. I was confined to bed for long periods so it was a laptop, iPad and notebook + pencil. I feel sure the markets will close some of it so I know I have to keep monitoring and adjusting. I just hope nobody shoots the goose sometime soon!!

I will also add that this uses smaller stakes but looks for larger moves. The benefit is that a trailing stop can help mitigate losses when you can't close quick enough yourself.

Good to hear that you method as worked well during the last 2 weeks. I on the other hand have been mediocre to average at best. I put it down to the wind down from jumps to flat and seasonal change (I hope).

As for the markets “correcting” your edge, well you had the savvy to spot it, and used your time well to develop it/understand it. I am sure you have the insight/ability to adapt it to any corrections etc. as you say for every negative there is a positive. Its good to hear people developing new edges.
