I'm looking for a laptop to take to places with Wifi access, so I can search for horses to bet on and then nip to a bookmaker around the corner.

I'd initially bought a netbook, but returned it, as the small screen size meant I had problems running a piece of software I use.

I'm looking for something lightweight, with an excellent battery life and built-in wifi. I'm not looking for anything fancy - just something that does the job! :)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Jeff

You're a rather confusing person

You contribute huge amounts of posts on a trading forum, but appear to spend much time visiting betting shops

I prefer to think of myself as enigmatic! :)

I haven't given up on trading. Far from it. I'm just focusing on gambling at the moment to top up my bank balance, as it's my bread and butter (although hopefully it won't always be!).

Thinkpad X301 - best ultraportable laptop ever made.

'think they stopped making the X3nn series last year - not because they weren't great, probably because they were too expensive for plebs who just want shiny things (that break 5 mins later).

get a s/h X300/X301 with a SSD on eBay.

or X2nn series, but not had one of those - http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... 5187ACE74A

I'd actually recommend either an ipad or if you want to be more discrete something like a samsung galaxy tab rdping into a server or a dell streak.

My mum has a galaxy tab and whilst it is about a million miles away from an ipad (certainly wouldn;t recomend it to anyone wanting an allround tablet) it is smaller and lighter and great for carrying around for something like you are after.

Thanks Jim

A piece of software I use only runs on a Windows platform, so the Ipad would be a non-starter, but thanks anyway. :)

I'm not too bothered about being discreet - I fill in the betting slips in the pub! Also, in my experience, most betting staff are happy for you to take money from the house! ;)

I use a laptop as a matter of course. I recently bought a Lenovo G550 which is a good value for money machine. I connect it to my 22"monitor when trading at home and consequently have a nice little set up.

It ticks all your boxes.

cheers

Ferru,
What is this piece of software you use?
Does it highlight well fancied horses?

Or is ita secret?

Thanks

Forgive my ignorance but what is meant by "RDP" from an Ipad to a windows machine?

RDP is an app you can download onto you i pad then you can control your desktop which is runnig Bet Angel(or anything else) off the i pad.It works but is fiddly.
I think its better for just checking up on how things are going rather than firing a load of orders into the market.

Here is an article explaining Microsoft RDP:

And for the iPad you will need this from iTap:

And this from Bet Angel:
