Hi,

Just got a demo of Betangel and seeing what I can get out of it. I'm blind and use screen reading software and just wondering if anyone out there uses a screen reader and/or has some knowledge to share with me on what you can/cannot do with a screen reader in Betangel.

I'm aware through searching this forum that one screen reader user didn't seem to get on too well with it and was quite critical of Betangel's design for accessibility reasons. I just wanted to write and ask whether there are any other screen readers out there and how you are getting on? And/or whether anyone from Betangel has any information/tips to pass on to me?

So far with my limited playing around I think I'll be able to get some useful stuff out of the software but other aspects are not accessible to me. I've got a couple of specific questions if anyone could answer for me?:

1. I have a bit of trouble selecting a market because the screen reader can only read the names, as opposed to the ids, using a certain technique which is a bit fiddly and doesn't always work properly. So I am wondering - is there any place online or some tool I can use to discover the market ids of the markets I'm interested in? Because it reads the ids easily.

2. JAWS, my screen reader, is reading things to me I'm fairly sure it wouldn't know by default. It's possible it's picking these up from tooltips but the way it's reading sounds more like it's been customised to do so - I'm just wondering whether the programmers have made some changes in an attempt to make it more accessible? If so is there anyone I could talk to because I may be missing something/not getting full use out of it and I'd like to find out what they've done.

Thanks for any help which can be offered.

Bet Angel has an extensive user interface. We've used design strategies and UI toolkits that minimise statically designed screens and maximises reuse of UI objects. If we didn't do this many users would run out of Windows USER or GDI objects when using all the Bet Angel tools on complex markets.

Unfortunately screen readers work best with static screens and as such don't work well with Bet Angel. Therefore resource constraints mean we are unable to pro-actively support their use.
