i agree, how many bots are there that the only purpose is to place orders in the market at 2 and 3 ticks above or bellow to try and manipulate WOM and pull the orders out of the market? i would guess a few try this that have moneyEmmson wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:02 pmThis poster also said manual trading is a mugs game not long ago which is nonsense on stilts.LinusP wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 7:05 pmAll the big players are automated.speedyhamster wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:16 pm
what has programming got to do with being a profitable trader?
if you are on about collecting data that is a different matter
Trading What I see !?

This weeks current bot scatter chart, as you can see higher strike rate, but smaller take profit order offset, and obvious no stop loss!:
StrikeRate: 63%
Win/Loss: 0.44
Profit: -£6.45StrikeRate: 63%
Win/Loss: 0.44

Maybe you need to break yoru bot out, NH and flat, the same bot may not operate the same given different rules of race ??
He means traders over 25 stone. They automate their trading so they don't need to get off their couch all day.

do you know your win/loss ratio?
strike rate for the most part is irrelevant as its dependent on average win/loss
maybe you won 110 and lost 100 in a time period so youd have an edge of 10%, its not important if you lost 10 in a row at some point.
then if you can filter by certain days or times, race types, sports, price ranges etc to better understand where you are leaking. but be careful not to draw conclusions too soon because of a few mornings have been better than afternoons etc
on the other hand if your -20% over 10k races and relatively level staking thats obviously nothing to do with variance

The reason we don't learn as fast as kids, it's not because our brains are getting slower but because we have to do our own housework, cooking, make a living, etc. and have less time and enthusiasm for it. I remember buying my first video recorder when I was 16 (£560!) and spending a whole day reading the manual and making sure I knew how to use every single feature whether I needed it or not. Nowadays, you buy a TV set and get infuriated if it's even necessary to look at the manual to get it working.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 12:45 amYou kids with your new fangled languages.Gotta be honest, for me Python felt a leap too far because I don't learn things as fast as I used to.
I'm pretty sure I could learn any language in a week if taking a week off trading didn't bother me.

It's the manual guys who are welded to their chairs.

rik's numbers look believable. One person can only earn one wage, a rack of servers running multiple strategies on everything 247365 doesn't need to be making much from each trade to do quite well.

It's not programming obv but 'we' decided to learn Spanish during the lockdown, Mrs is a natural but I'm hopeless. Then again I've been mainly watching reggeaton videos hoping to just absorb it, like people who learn English by listening to the World Service. Not especially recommended tbh, but I am sorted if I ever need to tell someone what a bad bad girl I am and how i want to make their bedsprings squeak

...sorry for the thread hijack... back to the trading.
Before I went to Spain I borrowed Spanish speaking material from a mate; a book and accompanying audio. I was all enthusiastic about learning a new language and impressing girls by demonstrating that I've taken the trouble to learn Spanish, even if I can't speak it fluently. When I looked at the first page of the book I realised it's not as straight forward as I thought and just put it aside until I no longer had time to learn it.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:28 amIt's not programming obv but 'we' decided to learn Spanish during the lockdown, Mrs is a natural but I'm hopeless. Not the handiest phrase I've ever learnt admittedly but there aren't many latin music videos about asking the way to the nearest cash machine.
