So BetAngel is enforcing a decision coming up, i'm going to collect data for the next 7 days, i'll then have about 2 weeks of data. I won't use BA then until I can see something useful to forward test from my data, because as it stands i'm just wasting money...and as you wisely say above maybe my brain is not wired for this sort of thing. I'm far from stupid, I have a very good degree background, a lot of experience in programming, but most likely a brain that isn't wired for this. Anyway, i'm going to have a couple of Gb of data to play with that won't cost me money down the drain...!

I'm not sure why you used the word "enforcing" here. Getting a reminder when you login a week before expiry and an option to seamlesslessly renew by entering your new licence number if you want to is a useful feature. Answering 'No' only means 'not now' and allows you to continue. For those who do wish to use the option it saves the inconvenience of making the changeover partway through a trading day.

Hi, yes I do have logs by race market name, i analyse that end of day typically, but don't find any correlation for the losses, hence my question the other day on this... however I think i might revisit based on different categorization based on what Peter and others said.
One thing I would say though, is is race type less important bot type trading vs manual? You will notice on Peter's new bot results yesterday it looks like it was trading every market...
Yes perhaps, just that if it is a single bot trading the same strategy on different markets then you might expect it to work better on some than others, in the same way for manual trading. I should add I've never dabbled at all in automation so I could be completely wrong. It's just been useful for me to see actual confirming data showing that I trade some markets better than others, so can then adjust accordingly by reducing stakes, not trading those markets at all etc. I'm sure Peter's experience allows him to create such a bot more easily than someone just starting out!

Why can some people see opportunities and others not?
Eg.Peter knocks up a new trading bot and is instantly profitable...?!?!what the ...?
In most walks of life when the average person looks at those at the top, they see some sort of genius or god but this isn't really the case. It's more like an iceberg where you only see the top and don't see all the effort they've put in under the surface to get there. I seem to remember you work with computers, so imagine how many people that see you doing work and think you are a genius because they don't know much about computers and can't fathom how you can do it so naturally. Usually people think or say "I'm not smart enough to do that" but realistically they could with lots of practice. It's like the maths I done in my engineering degree would look impossible to the average person but really it's just because I studied it so much that I was able to do it, I even failed maths at school at some point before that.

I've saw Peter post about how many times he failed at trading Aus racing before he cracked it for example. He always says his results are because he's so well practiced and that's the simple answer, those that have spent the most time on something are going to have the best results especially in a competitive game. Us that have been here less than 4 years are still at the apprentice stage

How long did you think it would take to become profitable and what did you think it would cost you?

You asked earlier if you could enjoy trading if you were losing. Well I'd say you have to, it takes the sort of commitment you only put into something you love and you're going to be spending money on learning for a 1,2, 3 or more years.

I think you've probably got unrealistic expectations, 2 weeks or even 2 months of data really isn't going to tell you anything and although you've said you just want a modest return, trading doesn't work like that. Success is a tipping point and it's as hard to make a pound as it is to make 100. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a free lunch, any job/activity with the potential to earn 6 or 7 figures is going to be difficult.

I do wonder now if Elliott will be banned and thus his horses from Cheltenham too

Irish racing needs to have sunlight shined on it, remember what Jim Bolger said/hinted at not long ago.

This latest scandal may be a turning point. How could such a brilliant trainer be such an ogre?

He and his horses should be banned from ALL UK tracks for 12 months.

i think the horses will be ok if the owners transfer them quickly; i believe if transfers are completed 5 working days before Cheltenham, then they can run.
