control of exchange spread differential

can anyone tell me how to manage the exchange spread differential, ie only back or lay a bet when when the market spreads is in a 3 tick differentials, would be much appreciated

thanks pal, ive managed to understand it now, ive set it back and equal to lay minus x ticks so there wont be any gaps and lay is equal to back plus x ticks
