I recently downloaded the new version of McAfee.

Very annoyingly, it keeps signing me out of the forum after every post, even if I tick the 'keep me signed in' box
I use AVG Free. No problems, except recently Chrome freezes if I leave it for any length of time. If I click on a different Chrome tab it comes back or, if I'm patient (which I'm not) the current tab will eventually wake up, but it's weird and annoying that it's started happening.

I've stopped using antivirus software because I'm sick of having my own scripts flagged up as "potentially" harmful. WTF does "potentially" mean? Every file on your hard drive is a potential virus!

I'm getting flipping sick of football commentators apologising for bad language being caught on the microphone. People of the generation that don't like to hear swearing are all in their nineties and will be in bed. :)

That annoys me and probably most other people too. Apparently though they are contractually obliged to say it, and not doing so can land them in trouble with regulators. There was an article about it in the racing post a while back.

Most commentators annoy me full stop. I rarely watch a game with the sound on these days .

For me the point about swearing is, if you use these words regularly, to describe normal, trivial irritation, there is no way to express annoyance with something important. Unless, of course, you have a gift for linguistic self expression. Which I don't. So I try to keep expletives as an arsenal for when I've really lost it and would rather thump someone. In those circumstances I can blurt out a stream of invective and flounce off. And then feel guilty for abusing someone, but be glad I didn't resort to violence.

Lucky we have a swear filter on this forum. Greenmark was swearing his head off. ;)

I've just noticed, the swear filter doesn't take effect on the Bet Angel desktop.

I strongly disagree with this. Profanity is something that has no place in civilised society, let alone on a football pitch where millions of children are likely to be watching. Top sportsmen and women, like elite athletes are bound by a moral code of conduct to exhibit role-model behaviour, both on and off the track / pitch.

I'm not saying that the odd swear word isn't appropriate down the pub or when hiting one's thumb with a hammer, for example. but never on a public sports stadium with families present or watching.

In a nutshell, it's indicative of the general poor standards of decorum and decency that we're seeing of late in modern society, so you'll forgive my lack of sympathy for you having to hear the commentator apologising for the profane fools on the pitch, Derek. Your ire might be better directed at the potty-mouths twits causing the issue!

NEVER EVER BUY FROZEN SLICED MUSHROOMS!

Not only do they taste flipping awful but in the time it takes to cook them, drain the excess water, add more oil, etc. a small pan full is reduced to a tablespoon. You can save time scrubbing and slicing some fresh mushrooms.

 Most children swear more than I do! I don't like hearing very young children (6-y-os) swearing in public, especially in front of parents who don't bat an eyelid - you need to learn to talk and socialise before swearing. But at school and with friends it's now part of the language. I used to have a friend who knew a vicar who would swear his head off down the pub (and drink a lot) with his fellow vicars.

If you want to take it a step further, you can go to your local woodlands and search for some nice fresh oyster mushrooms that grow in the wild! Save money too, FREE mushrooms !

Make sure you know your grey oysters from your fly agarics though ! :P

I agree with you CS. I'm not a prude by any means. But the way expletives have become part of the rhythm of ordinary speech baffles me.
I return to the impact of not swearing in general, but swearing when confronted by important issues. When we told my mother she had 6 months to live she simply said 'Bugger'. I had never heard her swear before (40 odd years).
Liked the thumb-hitting reference though. Boy, have I been there! :-)

I couldn't tell the difference between a mushroom and highly-poisonous fungi that causes instant death so I'll stick to the supermarket mushrooms. :)
