Here is just one.

I am laying with offset @10% and stop at 10% then greening just before the off.

Sounds simple?

If I have two horses in a race and one succeeds and one fails ( Thats the 50-50 part) then I should gain around 10% on the success and lose 10% on the fail, basically break even?

In the race below it lost £1.19 on the race for a £10 stake on each. How did this happen? Should I not be around the £0.00 mark or close to it?

This is not the only race. I have had 3/4 in one race and just about broke even.

That still makes no sense as the tick values are just close to 10%, so one win =+£1 and 1 loss =-£1.00 (roughly)

Is it the green up that is causing the loss as -£1.19 is a long long way from £0.00. Ok, the tick values can't be exactly 10%, but they are close.

-£1.19 is like having just the one horse in the brace that failed the trade but the other horse succeeded.

Your stop on Gentleman Joe was at 5.5 but the green-up was at 3.7, so you would have lost a bit there.

Remember, 10% knocked off 100 is 90 (10 less) but 10% added to 100 is 111 (11 more). So it won't be perfectly balanced.

Laying a horse at 10 for £10 and backing it at 11 wins £0.91, but backing it at 9 would lose £1.11.

Thank you Derek, it now makes perfect sense.

I should have realised from experience that a markdown is not the same as a markup. It is basic retail. If I give a 25% discount on a £10 item I sell @ £7.50 but if If my buy price was £7.50 I would only break even BUT I had an original markup of 33.34%. So, trading @ 10% the markdown is not the same as the markup.

Then greening I thought was a problem . The horse was well bet down after the stop, so the green up compounded the problem yet if I had not placed the stop in there it would have been far worse.
