why does Bet Angel place a bet at 1.01 before closing trade?

A place to discuss anything.

I have several times in the last few days missed a closing trade in the tennis because when I hedge/close, Bet Angel first puts a bet in at 1.01, this takes 5 secs to get to market and sits there for a while before Bet Angel decides to put in the actual Hedge bet, which takes another 5 seconds...

So instead of 5 secs it takes about 15 secs to get the closing bet in by which time the market has moved...

What is going on?

You are trying to place a lay of less than £2 I assume. Hence it places a lay at 1.01 for £2 (5 seconds) then changes the stake to whatever you want, say 52p, so changes the £2 bet to £2.52 (5 seconds) then it cancels the orginal £2 at 1.01 and changes the 52p to the odds you want to lay at say 3.05 (5 seconds).

Therefore, it takes 15 seconds (assuming an inrunning delay of 5 seconds) when staking less than £2.

If you were trying to back say 52p at 3.05 it would:

1. Place back of £2 at 1000.0 (5 seconds)
2. Change stake to £2.52 (5 seconds)
This gives you 2 bets at 1000.0, £2 @ 1000.0 and 52p @ 1000.0
3. Cancel the £2 @ 1000.0 and change the odds on the 52p bet to 3.05 (5 seconds)

Total 15 seconds.

Have been using small stakes while testing some strategies.

Thanks!
