My Horse trading, which is 100% automated, is doing fine, but struggle to make a profit from steamers and drifters. Anyone else facing this same issue?

Therein lies the enormous challenge of making scalping consistent. The use of stop loss just ruins any volume-based approach I can find.

I have similar issues with steamers / drifters and have ruled out all novices and stakes and generally try to stick more to the handicaps as they are (sometimes) more stable price wise.

Look closely at how early you arm the triggers also. Often sub-4 hours to around 30 mins mark is optimal to minimise drifting / steaming, I've found.

Are you applying to ALL races or just selecting certain ones?

Certain UK races only.

I have automation that only runs on certain markets and deliberately excludes others. So I would have thought that was the way to go.

Thanks! I'm going to be even more selective moving forward.

I spend about twice as much time analysing as I do trading so if you archive enough data you should be able to refine it.

Perfect! Exactly what was needed to turn it around.

Can you do a video on how you archive data, refine it and analyse it please Peter?

Bet history is a simple starting point, although that might just steer you towards excluding whole types of market rather than identifying the actual setup which is at fault. Although market types differ, there's occasions when one acts just like another, and your strategy would work equally well. Excluding race types wholesale would mean you also miss opportunities you'd wouldn't otherwise have had even though they might be less frequent.

My strategies tend to be based around particular scenarios, and those might happen in any market whether it's a handicap, non handicap, or a dog race. It's not just blind to race type it's blind to sport.

Everything is considered, but not everything meets the criteria to bet. That's preferable imo to considering only some and always betting on them.
