Any Liverpool fan who wants to relieve the horrors of their worst night at 23:10 ITV are showing extended highlights on the final game of the 88/89 season against Arsenal!

OMG thats a "I remember where I was" moment when I saw that game. Only "Aguerrrrrrrrooooooo" tops that

But momentum is everything and Liverpool have it but they also have enough big game players to get the job done against a safe journeyman Palace team. But it could still get nervy. I laid the draw in Burnley vs Liverpool as goals were almost a formality. Burnley have lost their defensive cohesion and was why they got done by Leeds while Liverpool look like they could concede at any stage.

That's the worry for me.. If they keep giving up so many chances than sooner or later they'll be taken. Have visions of Benteke banging in a hat-trick!

He almost got sent off yesterday. I think everyone will finally see how much having fans back means to the players. Either way it's going to make for a great finale on Sunday.

I was 11 and didn't see the game live so that's probably why it didn't scar me for life! :D

The ultimate horror for me personally was the 2018 Champions League final, I mean WTF?! 🤬 Gerrard's slip is a close second.

Yeah the fans will be a massive boost... the flip side of that though is if its 0-0 at the hour mark... the murmurings will begin :|

I watched the first half in a pub and second half in a mates house. It was so rare to see a league game shown live in those days but it was on live on terrestrial so either ITV/BBC1 can't remember which. They actually played it after the cup final which I don't recall happened before

Sure I've seen somewhere since it was one of the largest viewing figures at the time (excluding divorce papers being served on new years eve), but among sports and football it was one of the highest before a million channels come along

Heysel in 85 was a horror but for different reasons. How they came to play that final I never know

I guess 89 was a crap year overall with the Hillsborough disaster as well, if Kenny didn't leave after that the club probably wouldn't go through such dry spells for so long.

It's interesting, we had a similar experience over here the following year in 1990, I barely remember anything but in short Zvonimir Boban kicked a policeman on the football pitch and basically started a war of independence : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFGI7m7_SMM

Needless to say we like our football as well ;)

Boban... A name from the past. What a player he was and you had to go some to get in the great Milan team of the early to mid-nineties. Multi-talented but knew how to handle himself

People in this country downplay or don't appreciate the passion of football in other countries simply because our league is the richest. The derbies in countries like Russia and some of the Eastern bloc countries are insane. Back in the 90s I went to see Besiktas vs Fenerbahce when I was in Turkey and that was the only time I ever felt intimidated inside a football stadium. Never forgot that and never will.

Got back home and the Sheff Utd games never felt the same after that

Yep, Turks are well known for their fanatical football support and intimidating atmospheres :) But off the pitch it's almost the opposite, they're known for their hospitality and warmth overall, in many places they won't even take your money if you're a guest just visiting. You can type in "why is everything free in Turkey" in Youtube and you'll have a lot of stuff to watch :)

Yeah I felt that when I went there back in the 90s but dont really know enough Turks really.

Those Spartak ultras are a crazy lot and if you want something insane to watch on YT, type in "Mustang Wanted" and sit close up to the biggest TV screen you have

Then let me know whether your verdict is bonkers or amazing mental strength. Those Russians aren't to be messed with. That mental strength comes in very handy from time to time like when you're in a tight spot at a place called Stalingrad :D

Those adrenaline junkies? My theory is that most of their courage comes from vodka so I'll go with bonkers :D But thanks for the anxiety!
