I'm hardly the best person to post this as I'm undeniably one of the worst offenders but..

In recent months we've (& if you like, i) have become wrapped up in forum debates, endlessly one after the other.

It's got to the point where I believe that, I & others are literally looking for opportunities to direct negativity towards others, maybe we've become so stale? Although there is some great times too!

My point is, nobody really cares about our spats, we do maybe, but looking in from the perspective of someone just joining the forum, we're not helping. I love seeing fresh faces, fresh conversations & i honestly believe we're stunting that growth.

Pat, Derek & the countless others I've purposely offended (gone out of my way to do so), fuck you & long may it continue.... JUST JOKING! Sorry boys, let's bury it & be mindful of how intimidating we can come across in an environment that should be welcoming.

Profanity and sincerity are not likely bedfellows. try saying what you mean, and meaning what you say might be a good start?

I wouldn't worry too much. Definitely don't think there's anything intimidating there. Best thing is to be yourself and let what happens happen.

Sounds nice in theory James but just speaking about the spats me and you have had I think we've been here before? I'm really not the type of person to hold a grudge and I wish you no ill will but there have been times in the past when I thought we had reached an understanding and moved on. But then just as I think we've found some common ground you'll throw a jab out of nowhere, then another and another until I acknowledge said jabs at which point you'll tell me that you didn't realise I was so sensitive or easily triggered or something to that effect. I've had spats with Naffman and CS and others but I think we've managed to find common ground and can have a grown up conversation. Me and you though I'm not so sure, I think we're a little bit too much like oil and water.

So if it's all the same to you I'll stay in my lane, you can stay in yours and then if any further contentious threads pop up we can both be satisfied that we didn't contribute to them being locked by having another pop at each other.

Agree 100% though that the forum should be welcoming to everyone and should be a resource rather than a minefield of petty arguments for any new members to have to navigate.

James, you really need to replace all the you/we with I/me. You keep initiating an argument out of the blue, forget how it started and assume all participants are responsible. Take your provocative post to the recently locked thread for example. You were looking for an opportunity to start a fight and found one, but I don't see anyone else doing it. The rest of us get drawn in.

Just be yourself and whether you belong or no, so be it. IMHO open minds will always find ways to co-exist and build bridges instead of burning them, but if you have to put great effort into changing who you are then surely not worth the effort, lol.

Obviously none of us are perfect, there are all sorts of outliers on here, if we were perfect we probably wouldn't be involved in this stigmatic industry, so not much moral high ground to be gained in the first place.

It's akin to avoiding big losses whilst trading, you can sense little biases with different people here and there so if you push all the wrong buttons like you would on a trading ladder then even if you win arguments you're still a loser, since you gained nothing by it. And most of the stuff is just little ego battles and misunderstandings anyway like it always was, maybe a bit of forum fun for a few of us, but it's rarely any actual disagreements over major important topics. But open a political thread and allow everyone to express their full opinion and fireworks are guaranteed.

I personally really like those 2 quotes from somewhere, one would say to get your ego in check and most of your battles in life are already won. The other one says that a sage battles his own ego while the fool battles everyone else's. And I would wholeheartedly agree with those, in other words if I get into a pointless argument, fun or no, that probably means that my ego has gotten the better of me that time, I think same goes for everyone else.

Regarding this thread, I would say it helps to read between the lines, it's annoying to see locked threads but if the admins give someone a clean slate then that's probably a cue that you should as well.

End of the day, if you can't get along with like-minded traders then who the hell can you get along with for crying out loud?? Normies won't understand you ;)

A random bunch of people who've all decided to plough their own furrow certainly aren't short of confidence in their own opinions. I'm sure the HumanResoursesPro forum is all hugging and clapping but 50 maverick gamblers are going to get feisty sometimes, pull out their pistols, and the piano player will stop playing.

But our job is entirely based on understanding that different people come to different conclusions when given the same information, so scuffles don't last long, the music starts up again and we all get back to necking Red Eye and squeezing good-time girls. :) If you've ditched the suit and tie and wear a bandit mask to work then it's kind of what you signed up for.

It does come with the territory and it's hard to avoid since we're all misfits and outlaws and outliers by some definition, but I really like that wild west saloon analogy :) The piano does indeed start playing again after a brawl or a few fired shots. But be careful with giving us too many excuses :)

I'm glad we managed to de-escalate and shake hands before someone called the sheriff and everyone scattered :)

Unlike the wild west I think the forum is big enough for everyone to co-exist :D
