FOR INFO
Just had an email purporting to be from Tote and asking me to confirm my details.
Firstly, I have not used my Tote account for well over 10 years and I certainly didn't sign up to them with my current email address.
Secondly, from experience there is no 'Gov.co.uk' website, it is usually 'gov.uk'.
Thirdly, the Tote (and other bookmakers) would more than likely not use a prefix with KYC (ie. Know Your Customer) before their company email address contract details.
And more importantly, there are grammar mistakes...if they want to scam people then do it bloody professionally !!!

What would concern me about that is why have you received it. Who gave the scammers your email address. I have never received anything like that.paspuggie48 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 4:39 pmFOR INFO

It must have been spawned from a contact in your betting accounts. Very worrying.
Thankfully, only Betangel and other legit organisations have my email. So i feel safe as houses. But in any case I can spot a scam with ease.

Yup, knowing a few in the biz as I do, one would be shocked at how little information the spammers/hackers need to get everything about you...
Thanks for posting I've got this email as well!paspuggie48 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 4:39 pmFOR INFO

A few of the social media things like "Your porn star name" are a combination of your favourite colour, mothers maiden name, your first pets name, or some bullpoop like that. They're also the same security questions for many accounts too, so it just takes a bit of harvesting to find a load of potential victims unfortunately.paspuggie48 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 5:17 pmYup, knowing a few in the biz as I do, one would be shocked at how little information the spammers/hackers need to get everything about you...

I recall many years ago when you checked for a website domain name, if it didn't exist then you paid for said domain name for a few quid. Turned out a few of the companies were recording these words/names and then snapping the name up themselves...leaving mere mortals to have to fork out a lot more than originally expected. I think Beckham took some to court as said companies were snapping up famous people's names with various domain extensions (?)Dublin_Flyer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 5:59 pmA few of the social media things like "Your porn star name" are a combination of your favourite colour, mothers maiden name, your first pets name, or some bullpoop like that. I think it was 20th Century Fox that lost out on 21st Century Fox cos someone got there first and had to pay him to buy the domain. Microsoft V MikeRoweSoft was another interesting one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_v._MikeRoweSoft

I remember that well, it became quite a craze with people trying to snap up names ahead of companies moving online.Dublin_Flyer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 6:17 pmI think it was 20th Century Fox that lost out on 21st Century Fox cos someone got there first and had to pay him to buy the domain.
