In Australia betting with the bookies away from the track must be done online. The only betting shops are the State backed totes. There are three main Totes in the country, New South Wales (Sydney), Super Tab (Melbourne) and UNI TAB ( the rest of the country). So depending on where you place your bet, your price is determined by that tote. Prices vary between the 3 totes almost 100% of the time.
The online bookies ( Sportsbet, Centrebet etc) all offer the best price of the three major totes on all major race meetings. In most cases this can be a differance of between 5 and 20 percent.
While Black Caviar was rock solid at 1.18 to 1.20 all day, what a shock it must have been when the totes posted there starting prices.

NSW TAB Win 1.10 place 1.04
Super TAB Win 1.10 place 1.00
Uni Tab Win 1.40 place 1.00
