Surely markets are too small for any big structures to work effectively
I'm not sure I get what you mean by too small?. As in potential for profit/edge or as in space for participants?.
Well you can't have actual courses without sharing edges and there's not enough profit in the market for everyone that wants to be profitable

There is actually a market for people who would like additional help with Bet Angel.

There is a limit to what we can do in support, so if anybody wants to offer this service. There is definitely a market for it!
I think this is a good idea but has grey areas. Alot of users specialise in their own areas and software knowledge is potentially shaped to those areas.

I've always thought that there is plenty of potential, not just for consulting but also for teaching. My Mrs is self employed and some of her work came through a company called Therapy Training School. Courses were a range of holistic therapies that were offered up and down the country. Individual teachers (all self employed) weren't trained in every therapy but specialist in a few & training was done to accredited body standard.

With the reach and span of BA users, a similar structure would be perfect, as we've found out in the past credibility has always been an issue & time to offer courses from BA's side has been limited due to skin in the game, so accredited BA courses ran by users would solve both issues and help to grow 2 products simultaneously.

The traffic of people would be funnelled and finally the industry would have something structured that is accredited by it's proven backbone.
Are you talking about teaching to write profitable bots or just skills in creating rules files and leaving the profitable idea to the student?

BA users have a wide range of skills so I'm not being specific about anything but I think I was probably thinking more along the lines of strategies. I understand Kai's comment and to some extent I agree but if we look at the success rate of traders it probably isn't something that would concern me... I mean strategy can be taught but you can't teach skill, discipline, desire or the perfect psychological mindset.

I don't know anyway, it was just an idea. The Exchange seems to be dying a slow death and anything that helps to support or drive our ecosystem I'm all for.

Like I said to Derek, I agree with you to an extent. The way I see it though is Messi & Ronaldo could give me a day of their time, they could show me playbacks and tell me what they were thinking and why they did what they did in that moment... the thing is, that moment passed and I'll never be a Messi or a Ronaldo, likewise, other athletes that compete will never compete at their level.

We can show the possibility but we can't control the outcome.

There is a story told by Peter, he tells someone to back at a certain time and then hedge at post... if he followed that simple instruction he would of made money. He didn't and that explains beautifully why the market will never be too small.

I like the sound of being called a consultant. :D
It's all in the name... Help is free but consultancy is £100/hr + VAT ;)
,
there are different levels of consultancy ,
you wouldn't charge me the same as you would charge someone like @kahin AKA martingaler ?

back when i joined BA , my exepectation was a stratified mixture of exeperience . with a breakaway few.
i soon realised there is a silent majority with few willing to share incase they un intentionally offend the Breakaway few.
now i have learnt to accept its all part of the hide and seek mind-games which we all experience on the ladder ,commonly known as the edge.

i sometimes feel that peter must have made a couple of enemies for developing BA ...it was one of the easiest way for manual traders to step in the Algo raum of possibilities.
and with the latest BA versions developments the Code is beggining to resemble the very complex world of Advanced programming .

a Consultancy is a very good idea , and we all know who fits the description .

Who cares how much you're paid if you can call yourself a consultant. :D
