Hi all,

I have seen another post where there was some confusion around the use of “ANY selection” in Automation but where it was explained that placing multiple bets (ie. single bets on multiple runners) could be achieved using “ANY selection” in conjunction with a condition that the number of placed bets was zero, or something similar. When I tried that it did work by placing each bet one after the other but it was also suggested as an alternative that all bets could be placed in one go by creating individual rules for each Betfair Row (ie. runner). My question with the second option, given that the number of runners / bets will vary, is whether or not it is ok to oversupply the automation rule set with rules. By that I mean can I create enough rules, row by row, to cover the maximum number of possible runners / bets? If I created 30 such rules for rows 1 through 30, for example, would the automation work ok on (say) a field of 12 and just treat the excess 18 rules as defunct and not cause any issues as a result?

Yep. The rules for non-existent runners will be ignored.

If all your conditions are the same, you should be using EVERY selection. You don’t need 30 rules.
It won’t bet on EVERY selection, Only the selections that meet your conditions.
The ANY selection is a bit outdated.

Thanks Dabbla. For the particular thing I was doing I got a Bet Angel error message saying EVERY selection was not a valid option. I then worked out via another post that I could use ANY selection but was also interested in the alternative that Dallas suggested, which was the multiple rules setup.

No it isn’t, & far from. For example, Greening up… “Any Selection” with a condition is far from “Every Selection” with a condition.Tbh i don’t think you can even select “Every Selection” with a Green up rule.

If you use (close trade on selection) with EVERY selection, you get 30 green up parameter settings.
Including green up at a stored value.

Greening up with ANY gives you 2. Current/ reverse price.

Im pretty sure the OP does not need 30 rules.

Sorry gents. Maybe I should have been more specific about how I was getting caught up. After I got the error message about not being able to use EVERY I exhausted everything I could think of to get around that message but when I couldn’t do that I ended up finding the ANY solution in the forum. What I was doing involved no greening. It was simply placing individual bets on multiple horses pre-off at Betfair SP and variably staked. The way it happened with the ANY solution was that one bet was placed then rearming happened then the next bet was placed and so on. What I was trying to achieve at the start was to place all those bets in one hit or one batch if you like. But I couldn’t make it happen with EVERY.

Ok I see, Depending on exactly what you want to do, you could back/ lay EVERY at a sp price. You just wouldn’t be able to set the minimum limits.
