Hello
My advance apologies for what may seem quite a basic question. I'm trying to automate laying a given selection at its Actual SP, with a fixed stake, 2 seconds before the start of a race, provided that the Actual SP sits within a given range.
Am i right in thinking this is how you would do it?
General - Rule being Place Lay SP Bet, and arm trigger at 2 seconds before event start time
Parameters - I'm struggling with this because there doesn't seem to be an option to lay at a fixed stake
Condition 1 - Actual SP of selection is greater than X
Condition 2 - Actual SP of selection is less than Y
If this doesn't work, is the below an alternative solution?
General - Rule being Place Lay Bet, and arm trigger at 2 seconds before event start time
Parameters - Place at: Custom Ticks Above Actual SP (with Custom Ticks set at zero); Stake: Fixed Amount of £X
Condition 1 - Actual SP of selection is greater than X
Condition 2 - Actual SP of selection is less than Y
Thanks
Shaun
Automatically betting at Actual SP

You cant lay at an 'actual SP' before the off? There is a 'projected SP' but this (as in the name) is not guarenteed to be the 'actual SP'.

Thanks, yes fair point. Sorry i should have been clearer. I'm trying to put in an order before the off to lay at the Actual SP once it has been set upon the off. Having looked at the rules again, i'm a little clearer.
The part that i can't work out though is how to specify a fixed stake (rather than a fixed liability) for that lay bet. As an example, i may want to lay at Actual SP with a flat stake of £2 provided that the Actual SP is between 4 and 6.
In the conditions screen i'd specify that, for the bet to trigger, the Actual SP must be between 4 and 6.
I can see two fields in the parameters screen:
- Maximum: I'd enter a maximum price limit of 6.
- Liability: This is where i get stuck. I can see a "fixed liability" option but i don't want to fix my liability. I want my liability to vary, depending on the SP odds i get between 4 and 6, based on a fixed stake of £2. Is there any way i can do this?
If not, would anyone be able to recommend any settings that enable me to use a fixed lay stake while getting as close as possible to odds within Actual SP ranges that i specify?

To me that doesn't make sense, how can you place an order before something that is based on something after, you'd need to be able to see the future to do that.sharrison2010 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 1:53 pmI'm trying to put in an order before the off to lay at the Actual SP once it has been set upon the off.
SP's you back to a fixed stake, you lay to a fixed liability. If you laid to a stake you would in theory be risking 999 x your stake as the SP could be anything up to 1000.0
You might be able to do some calculations to dynamically alter your liability to achieve a fixed stake but it will rarely be exactly right as you can't know the SP and how much to lay to get your desired stake until the SP is known by which time it is too late to place the lay bet.

Thanks all. OK understood.
The problem i'm trying to solve is that i have determined some value betting strategies that are historically profitable based on Betfair Starting Prices being within a certain range, and using fixed back and lay stakes. So when running those strategies going forward I want to adopt that approach as closely as possible. My initial thinking was simply to back at the SPs using fixed back and lay stakes provided the SP sits within a certain range. Seems possible for back bets but not lay bets.
So for lay bets i want to get as close as possible to the starting price while being able to use a fixed stake. Presumably that's best achieved by laying at the current best exchange price, provided it sits within the odds range i want, as close as possible to the off.
