Sky News Australia: Djokovic has admitted to lying on travel declaration providing false information and immigration minister may make a character-based assessment!! He's just admitted to lying through his teeth, just send the idiot back!

Spanish government are now investigating whether he entered their country illegally last month!

I hope (wish) their rules allow for a reserve to take his place if/when he's deported. It would be nice if somebody of low ranking could enter the draw as number one seed. :)

The Australian government needs to explain why someone isn't allowed to travel to another state if unvaccinated, yet a lying clown can arrive from overseas to have a hit of tennis?

I understand your frustration. We've got a lying clown prime minister who turned up to a "bring along a bottle" party, thinking it was work. :)

Tennis Australia just officially delayed the draw.

Draw recommenced at 4:15 pm aust time.

No aust government decision yet on visa.

Now that he is in the official draw, I wonder if he trousers the A$90k first round losers collect if he is deported? Or to get the A$90k does he have to actually play the first point?

He could possibly end up playing part of the tournament while a court case with the Minister is underway, lose and be deported part way through the tournament.

Could, if’s & buts. This farce is overshadowing the actual tournament. Surely if the Minister has a reason to deny him his visa then he’s had plenty of time to do so since the court case.

The Minister needs to give proper consideration and carefully review the material Novaks lawyers dumped on the Minister (raising even more reasons why he should stay). Failure to give due and proper consideration will lead to the decision being overturned. Hence the time taken and also hence the dump of papers so then lawyers argue that it should take the minister a long time to properly consider their arguments. Their hope is they dump so much material they get to next Monday.

Absolute chaos for traders then. Trading him becomes either a hopeful or pointless exercise?. If starts the tournament with the risk of being deported I assume all trades/bets get voided if he does end up being.

Don't think so. If he starts the bet will lose unless he wins.
High risk trading. Would think the risk of him starting and being deported later is low though, with plenty of time for the government to make a decision. They don't want to make even greater fools of themselves I would think.

The run up to the tournament is probably going to be more exciting than the tournament itself!

I can already smell the random, spontaneous new forum contributors combusting, telling us that they’re taking BF to court if he does end up starting & then being deported. The potential for a potent mixture of controversy (noise) & emotional bias is on the cards I reckon.

I’ll be in the comment section over at Twitter having myself an unhealthy feast of comment reading… I simply wouldn’t miss a dose of cognitive dissonance for the world.

so, here's how i HOPE this farce turns out. His visa is honoured and he is allowed to play the 1st round (lots of booing)- Hurrah!!. :o

HOWEVER, he then tests positive ahead of the 2nd round (hmm, how on earth could that happen if he had covid only 3 weeks ago) and is forced out. Hoisted by his own petard so to say :D

I think they changed the rules a few years ago; if he gets deported now then the prize money would be split between him and the reserve who takes his place. Unless he forfeits the prize money for being a tool?!

If he does get deported then some reserve will be sitting proudly at the top of the draw!
