Ukraine Crisis
Didn't the Shell Oil chief or chief of another oil company say they got so much money they don't know what to do with it? That's probably why!Realrocknrolla wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 6:54 pmRussia supplies around 8% of the UK’s oil and 5% of its gas.
Why the fuck has energy risen by 50%?
Saw £1.93 for diesel today.
I think the quote (from Martin Luther King Jr) is a very sensible stance. 1st strike violence escalates. It takes courage (love, if you ike) to break the chain. I think Nato are trying to tread that fine line. Putin, or the hierachy behind him that we call Putin, are not. They are simply bullies.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 11:29 pmSorry, but if somebody's violent towards you, you can't solve the problem by loving him. And MLK was spot on. Hate cannot be driven out by hate. When beaten by force, hate will just sit there and fester only to re-emerge when it gets the chance. The only way to resolve conflict is to talk and build relationships that are so valuable to both sides that neither is willing to jeopardise them.
If somebody put a bullet through Putin's head, Russia and the rest of the world would be celebrating. I don't think there'd be much hate lingering around.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 11:17 pmI think the quote (from Martin Luther King Jr) is a very sensible stance. 1st strike violence escalates. Apart from within his friends, family and supporters. And on it goes. Am i not making my point well here? It takes real courage (from a position of strength, but sometimes not) to stop that vicious circle.
And I know "appeasement" is cited as the reason why Hilter felt emboldened to invade Poland. But I think (hope) our politicians are better versed in history than me and won't be duped. For one important reason.
Nato has nearly equal nuclear weapons available as Russia. Between Russia and Nato we could virtually wipe out humanity and very certainly destroy any semblance of civilisation. Thats clearly not an option. This is still a MAD world. My big worry is that we either have a creeping conventional war or one side has developed a defence system that neutralises the nuclear threat of the opponent.
Then we're in Hiroshima/Nagasaki territory where the is no alternative but to surrender.
But at least we'd have cheap vodka.

Do you need any more proof that Ukraine (the poorest country in Europe) is considered expendable.

The West and Russia are still quite chummy.

The US controls power and life support aboard the ISS and Russia controls things such as its propulsion.greenmark wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:35 amDo you need any more proof that Ukraine (the poorest country in Europe) is considered expendable.

If they weren't going to bring him back the US would switch off life support.

See what I mean about valuable relationships?Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:44 amThe US controls power and life support aboard the ISS and Russia controls things such as its propulsion.greenmark wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:35 amDo you need any more proof that Ukraine (the poorest country in Europe) is considered expendable.

They know that the average person can't think in numbers and will believe the politicians and media telling them that a distant war was the reason that the price went up.Realrocknrolla wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 6:54 pmRussia supplies around 8% of the UK’s oil and 5% of its gas.

Real reason is the western financial system has been on life support since 2008, after reaching the tipping point in 2019 they decided that something would need to be done because the debt is completely unsustainable. Using the guise of some crises they will be able to collapse the economy without backlash. People won't like it when they find out their money is being inflated away but at least if there is an invisible enemy to take the blame then they will somewhat accept it.
+ it's a good opportunity to reach the global sustainability goals of reducing consumption by pricing people out of private vehicle ownership and holidays abroad over the next 10-20 years. Growing population and declining oil reserves will only lead to mass famine and war if governments don't intervene soon
Russia was promised non-expansion to the east - Russia was betrayed, Russia asked to include it in nato (there was nato base once on Russia's territory!) - Russia was refused.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 11:17 pmI think the quote (from Martin Luther King Jr) is a very sensible stance. 1st strike violence escalates. Are betrayal and rejection signs of love for you?

All true but that's not a justification for an invasion.
A knife at the throat is a good reason to kick bully in his balls and Ukraine is a nato's balls.Trader Pat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 9:53 amAll true but that's not a justification for an invasion.
And this knife is not just a knife, it's a swiss knife with all possible options starting from artificially raised right radicals in power (two countries block worldwide condemnation of nazism - usa and ukraine, what a coincidence) and ending with banned by the geneva convention wmd development.
