Well done.

Me - Minus -30k, give or take.

I had a share of a rails book - we lost just over 80k in cash.

Some v v sharp money at these festivals.

Wow. Sorry to hear that.

Was it all the well-fancied winners that did the damage? 17 out of 28 winners were 1st or 2nd fav.

Anyone done well in the inplay markets? In hindsight probably should have put more focus on it
I do some bits on in-play, but like you want to try a bit more, i keep saying next year i will, then i sit back on the usual stuff

Its swings and roundabouts.

The margins are v good, but 1 punter had 7/8 winners - his smallest bet 4k, largest 16/22k on Alaho, which was never in doubt.

His only loss was 10k on Galopin Des .. which traded 1.01.

Lots of system probems (I actually viewed book from 10k miles away - also able to hedge/change prices etc), but patchy internet
with 60k people is an issue.

The expenses are insane - as is the cost of the really good pitches.

Year in year out the irish trainers seem to be one step ahead. My rules for next year:

Do not take on anything trained by WP Mullins, H De-Bromhead, G.Elliott. Add in Joseph O'Brien too.

Ireland.

Betfair post time turnover -27.6% on last year. It's the lowest I've seen for some time. It's been up and down over the years, but obviously, this isn't a good year for Betfair by any measure.

I was punting Cheltenham rather than doing any trading. I'm gubbed almost everywhere but not on BF Sportsbook and I ended up placing most of my bets there rather than the Exchange due to the more generous each way place terms. I don't know if this was any different to last year but could point towards some of the Exchange decline?

I had a much better year than the previous 2. Was more picky about which races I traded, lots of markets offered good scalping fodda from 2hrs pre off.

This is the first time in 3/4 years there hasnt been those crazy jumps in the markets which make a mess of your scalping positions!

I don't think the flow of customers to Betfair is reaching the exchange as much as in prior years. It feels that way on a lot of markets.

That is terrible

I was expecting this year to at least be equal or slightly up on the last few

Yet on initial inspection the number of individual bets appears to be about the same. So low volume doesn't necessarily look like a problem with Betfair attracting punters, more a problem that those punters' pockets aren't as deep. I've seen the same in the numbers for a year or more, activity if anything has grown, but smaller amounts are changing hands. I'm taking that as a sliver lining, once the ecomomy has recovered those pockets should get deeper and some normality should return rather than us waking up to find out everyone has simply lost interest in betting on horses.

Out of curiosity, was anyone on the drift on Facile Vega on Wednesday during the Willie Mullins live interview? (2.80) He said he had a concern about the amount of rain and how Facile Vega might handle the ground (2.92) out to 3.25ish, and BFSP 2.87

I was watching the interview on my phone in work on the BF app, just thinking - Someone on the BA forum is gonna make a packet on this drift!

Don't forget it's now minimum £1 vs £2 last year.
