How the fuck did they measure the distance?

Portable Range Finder with recording facility. The footage is on YouTube if your into that kind of thing. The device records distance from scope to target, adjusting in real-time with distance readout on screen. The only thing the soldier needed todo was allow for height, wind direction and some other stuff. Soldier pulled the trigger and 4 seconds later and target dropped with headshot. They even recorded the close up footage of that.

At the top of the pyramid though are the arms companies who are facilitating the whole show.

To me I don't see anything wrong with facilitation...

For example Betfair, facilitates gambling. On a bigger scale than a bet between two mates at the football match... People that are going to bet are still going to bet regardless of the existence of Betfair. As soon as you get a guy paid by Betfair to work at getting people to bet more, I would think you start running into moral or ethical problems...

Same with war and weapons...people that want to fight...will fight with bows and arrows, but if someone facilitates them with a nuclear bomb (and are strong enough financially to buy it).... well, they'll use that instead...the problems start arising when you pay someone to start wars, so you can sell weapons... which I suppose is a 'clever' marketing trick...

From the perspective of the engineer who develops the weapons, they are just participating in capitalism and trusting that the system works?

Anyway, I am no expert, I am quite naive about these things, but just seems to me to be a lot of parallels with the trade we here are involved in....

Yep. Those guys are highly specialised but also very sick one could argue.

But blowing up new born children is disgusting so personally I hope that Canadian gets his targets and stays safe.

I don't think these companies are just facilitators. If you look at the amount of money the US spends on their defence budget I don't believe these arms companies are just sitting on their hands hoping another war starts somewhere. When you have a system where lobbyists contribute to political campaigns you know they're asking for something in return further down the road, who knows what goes on behind closed doors. Halliburton made tens of billons of dollars from the Iraq war and their CEO in the late 90's was Dick Cheney who was still receiving payments from the company during the war and while he was vice president. Conflict of interest if ever there was one.

Like you say though we live in a capitalist society and I wouldn't want to change that. But I think these companies should have a bit more light shone in their direction.

It's painful to realise that on a high abstract level humanity is still a very primitive.

We still bring "gifts" (taxes, declining quality of living) to the "priests" so that they sacrifice innocents so that our "harvests" were good and we feel safe.
