Biden keeps calling Putin a dictator, as though he really means dickhead.

I had been wondering why a Grand master chess champion (Garry Kasparov) was continually giving commentary and analysis to news stations these last few weeks, I'd assumed it was just because he was from Russia, but just finding out he's the chairman of the Human Rights Foundation explains it
He's great but as James has found too much philosophy is a bad thing

Biden said of Putin, besides calling him a dickhead, "this man can not remain in power". I'm beginning to feel the slightest misunderstanding or slip of the tongue could result in ballistic nuclear missiles heading our way.

I think there will be a missile coming our way soon but it will get shot down by anti-missile systems.

Ballistic missiles are quite hard to stop, especially the MIRVs. The question is, will they be told to fire them or will they be told it's a training drill, receive instructions at the last minute to fire them for real and then run over the commander with the missile launcher vehicle.

You have a bleak view of humanity. If I'm going to die, I'd rather die hopeful and sticking two fingers up to dictatorship.

I have a very bleak view of Putin, he is capable of anything. I am convinced now he says Phase 1 is over, his troops will pull back and he will launch a chemical or nuclear strike at Ukraine. If that happens then it be WW3.

As traders and bettors, we've all had times when absolutely nothing goes right. Every trade goes the wrong way, every bet loses. Most people persevere, reassess, scale down or take some other sensible action. To a true Martingaler though, a long losing run is not only expected but planned for, and so they double-up. But many Martingalers bottle out at some stage before they put down their $65,536.

Putin's clearly a Martingaler and psychopath but he's showing signs of bottling it by giving up on Kyiv without unleashing the full firepower he has at his disposal. He's like a guy sitting at a roulette table who loses $32,768 on black and walks away saying "I wasn't doing a Martingale, that's my normal size bet"!

He was also betting at Kelso today and about to use the nuclear feature of BetAngel which takes all money down to 1.01 on the chosen horse. He said "I use the nuclear bomber feature of BetAngel in every market, it's my normal stake!"

People should stop worrying about Putin launching nuclear missiles at the west.

There has been a system in place since the 1980s to deal with such an event, even for hypersonic ICBMs.

In Germany there is a command and control system which links to systems across Europe and North America. Its purpose is to track ALL missile/rocket launches across the world and intervene when needed via anti-missile systems from multiple entities including Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Israel, Cyprus, France, UK, USA, Canada and from submarines. It can handle any object at low, high and those re-entering from space altitudes. For hypersonic flying objects it can plot where it will be at any given time and guide missiles to arrive at a certain point rather than trying to play catch-up. Its been tested every year since 1987 using enemy missiles launched from various world-wide locations with no front-end ordnance, obviously, for safety purposes.

The only question is can it handle say 1,800 nuclear missiles (that's the active number Russia has) launched all at the same time. No idea but given the calamity of the Russian military so far I doubt they could manage to launch anywhere near that many. Don't forget satellites are being used to track movements down to 10 metres all over the planet.

And for those wondering, if its that good how come missiles still end up hitting Israel from the West Bank. Very few do given the number launched at them and a decision is often made not to engage as they can't do that much damage given their size and payload. The Patriot missile system (which is part of the above I mentioned) is expensive to initiate. Not something you want to deploy unless the danger is significant, which a nuclear missile would be.

Russia does not have such a system, so any retaliation by the west would be very significant for them.

Don't forget, Ukraine on its own, has taken out 23 Russian anti-missile units and captured 4. So, in a nutshell, they not very good at what they were designed for in the first place.

For some reason, Russia is using analogue communication systems on the ground, having to resort to 3g mobile phones (not secure) and using medical field dressings dated from 1978.

I don't think we need to worry anytime soon about a nuclear missile hitting Buckingham Palace, your local pub or football stadium. :D

According to the Americans, Russia's new missile is impossible to intercept.

Any system that's was put in place 40 years ago is entirely irrelevant. Hypersonic missiles didn't even exist back then. Military experts say hypersonic missiles are unstoppable with today's technology, they travel too fast.

In football terms, a ballistic missile is the equivalent of a goalkeeper booting the ball up the field. You can see where it's going and a defender can possibly intercept it and header it away. Hypersonic gliding missiles are highly manoeuvrable, more like the way Maradonna went through our defenders as though they didn't exist, in 1986!

If or when a nuclear war breaks out I'm sure Russia will be completely obliterated but so will a large part of Western Europe.

I wonder how many billion people would like to be alone in a room with Putin. I guess it's between 4 and 5. :)
