I have had a look though the forum and cannot see a post that covers this and this maybe a newbie doing something wrong but here goes.
On my first day Saturday 2nd April, on three occasions this issue hit me, I hit the hedge button and it did not take and the bet carried on. Please note I am only playing small stakes.
The situations were.
1) With three seconds to go the profit went to Green and I hit the hedge. Did not take and the race was off. I have a practice that at 20 secs to go I press Keep All. But it would still not hedge in the race. Then suddenly the hedge took with three quarters of the race over and I got out with a £2.60 loss.
2 & 3) These are both the same, I like to play the front runners, if you cannot get a profit before the race and you press Keep All and they dually lead away the odds will normally drop to take in the lay bets that you have sitting there and you have a profit and you Hedge out. This is normally done in the first three furlongs. But on both these occasions the Hedge button failed again. and the the bets did not take and the leader failed and I made £5.86 loss & £3.68 loss where it should have been a £5.15 & £4.26 profits.
When you are working at such small stakes these failures destroys the rest of your wins.
When I hit the hedge button the notification notice sounded.

As a newbie what am I doing wrong?

Thank you

Paul

When you hedge the system places the appropriate bet. But there's no certainty anyone will match it and that's even more of an issue in-running. What you can do is to wait a few seconds after hedging and if your bet isn't matched or the price has moved away from you, then hedge again at the new price.

But taking an unhedged position in-running isn't a great idea unless it's planned rather than being down to not being in profit yet. Pre and in-running are effectively two very different markets in terms of volatility and volumes and as you're finding its very easy to make a losing situation worse.
