I started with DOS 2.1, followed by IBM mainframes. Windows didn't exist, and when it first came out DOSsers thought it was childish to use a mouse and picture icons.

Indeed - especially from my viewpoint since I started years before Microsoft even existed - line printer pictures were the most avant-garde things on the planet back then
