Maybe, they know how easy it is to frighten Westerners with nuclear threats, but probably more to do with the fact that they can't mobilize more men unless the war is official.
True. That boat has anti aircraft and anti missiles systems. Question is, why didn’t they work ?

Although, I was watching a program once on the history channel which said if you fire a missile at the back of a ship <= 5 metres above sea level then Radar, Sonar and the ships weapons system want always pick them up. It suggested it was something todo with the noise coming from the ships rudders and propellers which the ships defences have to ignore.
...I didn't realise all fires were started by the city of Kyiv by ....... magic?
It's not about the ship, it's about this https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ru ... 022-04-14/

Escalation continiues, these stupid "drive byes", western valkyries keep shouting "stuff it with weaponry!", 'merican military-industrial complex is swimming in money.
Great, just great.

I wasn't sure whether to put this is the joke thread instead.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov: “If Ukraine continues its provocations by attacking Russian cities, Russia will be forced to declare war against Ukraine”.
Isn’t there something weird in the constitution which says nuclear weapons can only be used if at war ?
It has to escalate to a special nuclear operation before full-scale war.

That was quite an old ship equipt with S-300 missiles. I don't think they have enough of their latest technology to cover all their personnel and hardware. Analysts say it's all down to a lack of awareness of the enemy's capabilities.

So Russia walks into Ulraine, raze Mariupol to the ground and is surprised/outraged by Ukraine responding with everything they've got. Cloud cuckoo land.

If you don't understand, Kai, it means the " 'merican way to combat" (carpet bombing and ect.). One of the things that make this conflict very strange is that no side declared war yet and sides involved in this conflict carefully protect gas pipelines and infrastructure across the territory.
The way I understand it, you may soon be called up and sent to the front line as well, providing you are anywhere between 18 and 65.

The stuff coming out of Russia on this is garbled. They only confirmed it was damaged due a fire (cause of which unkown) and subsequent detonation of the ammunition store and sank due to choppy seas.
But then are threatening to attack Kyiv in retaliation. I didn't realise all fires were started by the city of Kyiv by ....... magic?
It was the Ukrainians swimming along the beach that caused the splash waves that sunk their flagship.

Do you have friends or know of many people who are either serving in the army or have been called up for duty?

They were too busy trading on Betfair to notice the incoming missiles. ;)

No, none of my friends or relatives have been called up for duty, yet, and there are no professional contract soldiers among them serving right now.
