Hi all,
Hope you are all having a great day!
If possible, could anyone please throw some light on the following?
I have a doggy bot that usually runs very well with no probs, ......it places lay bets (with offset) about one minute b4 the off, and these bets will then cancel (if not filled) at the off when market suspends.
As usual, lay bets were placed in todays Swindon 12:58 market..........according to the market log, the market was suspended at 12:58:17, and according to the sporting life, the off time was 12:58:26.
Again, according to the market log, the betfair API had problems cancelling my bets at the off,
consequently my lay bets must have stayed in the market, and at 12:59:38 (I would guess when the race is over) my lay bet on the winner was matched
Even if my lay bets did not cancel at the off, how did anyone match my (still in the market) lay bet on the winner when the market should have been suspended?
16/02/2022 12:58:17: Guardian has detected that the market is suspended
16/02/2022 12:59:38: [G_Auto 1] : WARNING: The Betfair API was unable to process the bet cancellation request. Second attempt activated. (Ref: 258841899471)
16/02/2022 12:59:38: [G_Auto 1] : £ 2.6 of unmatched bet (Ref:258841899471) was filled before remainder was killed.
16/02/2022 12:59:38: [G_Auto 1] : Unable to place back bet on 2. Dapper Man at 3.05. The order cannot be processed as the market is suspended.
Hope that all makes sense!
any help appreciated,
have a nice day! and stay safe

Hi napshnap,
thanx for reply
I think you answered my question
My BA log for the market was telling me that the bet was matched at 12:59..........however, according to betfair profit/loss, it is telling me that the bet was matched at 12:57 !!!......as you suggested, sometime b4 off time.
Thanx for help
greybot went from a couple of quid up to a couple down
horsebot and footybot doing well though........still £1.63 up (for today, overall) using very small stakes
thanx

If you're straight laying (or backing) then don't worry about the cash amount, measure your performance against bsp. You might lose money all week but if you're beating bsp then longterm you'll be up.eatyourgreens wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 3:04 pmgreybot went from a couple of quid up to a couple downhorsebot and footybot doing well though........still £1.63 up (for today, overall) using very small stakes

Morning All
Today's the day I start with the Greyhounds! First job was to read this thread and others greyhound related. Plenty of good information and tips to make notes with. I've downloaded one of Dallas's pre-configured templates which is from the pre-horse racing market and set it away while I look at gathering some data. All has to start somewhere!

Is there a particular technique that appeals to you? I might be able to point you towards some data as it'll save you a lot of time and money if you could do some analysis before going live with a bot. Perhaps not concrete answers but it'll save you from running something that's a real non starter.Michael5482 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 11:49 amToday's the day I start with the Greyhounds!

Initial thoughts are basic and to look for the steamer/drifter pre-off due to the price movements. Bots running in practice mode at the mo. It's two fold for me tbh as my knowledge of Excel isn't great so going to use the data side to enhance my skills. No issue putting the work in and if I can improve 0.01% everyday that's progress to me.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 1:06 pmIs there a particular technique that appeals to you? Which ever route you go, be it trading or betting (which seems a favourite with dogs), you need to be looking for "value" in the long term.Michael5482 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 1:55 pmInitial thoughts are basic and to look for the steamer/drifter pre-off due to the price movements. Ask yourself why is it "steaming"?Michael5482 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 1:55 pmInitial thoughts are basic and to look for the steamer/drifter pre-off due to the price movements. I think one of my mistakes was chasing "price-action" alone too much, I reckon my understanding now, is that historic price action signals in the long term average out at net-zero

Any chance you can explain the difference between betting and trading?

But cheekiness aside, people do find value as an accidental byproduct of looking for moves, and many trade for years without even realising they have net value, so I wasn't going to be prescriptive at this very early stage. I think you learned a lot by looking for moves initially,

On average yes, but averages are made of a big bag of every possibility so its valid if you're descerning. At this rate you'll be proclaiming that the markets are an unpredictable random walk
