Ukraine Crisis
One of the 3 main criteria for joining NATO is that the prospective state is democratic. This means an elected leader, freedom of individuals and respect for rule of law.napshnap wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 8:19 amFormer Cold War architector George Kennan about nato unnecessary expansion - https://www.nytimes.com/1998/05/02/opin ... rom-x.html
So, stupid russophobia (and in fact - racism) is the cause and nato's aim was not communism but Russia. That explains natos strange unwillingness to let Russia join nato or negotiate with Russia....It shows so little understanding of Russian history and Soviet history. Of course there is going to be a bad reaction from Russia, and then [the NATO expanders] will say that we always told you that is how the Russians are -- but this is just wrong.
Poisoning political opponents, prison sentences for people who tell the truth and thieving of the state to build your palaces all fall foul of this requirement.
Furthermore, NATO doesn't have the power to allow Russia to join. Each member must unanimously agree to the application.
Further still, if Russia was member of NATO how would that stop them from invading Ukraine and leading to the same situation?

The Kremlin themselves said this years parade would not involve so much equipment. No wonder has allot of it has been destroyed in Ukraine.
Read an article, Derek, at that time Russia was democratic as sh*t, US consultants help to develop it's economy, there were foreign controlers at nuclear military facility, can you imagine that? Is it so hard to say openly that YOUR leaders f*cked up "the safe world" possibility then!?Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 10:45 amOne of the 3 main criteria for joining NATO is that the prospective state is democratic. I don't get it.

I guess Ukraine would be in nato too folowing Russia and this relations should be controlled by natos regulations and standards somehow.

I was joking)). Digging these figuers is too bothering.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 10:48 amIt’s all documented as lost, destroyed, captured equipment.
You should stop watching your state run TV.
Being in a position of "bigger brother" couldn't they then make concessions (I guess there is a better word for it, but you get it) for the sake of "the world peace" like how they stuffing the "black hole" with weaponry, flushing billions down the toilet now?
I understand that the question is rather rhetorical.
NATO's not in a big brother position and allowing corrupt states to join is more than a concession, it's ripping up the NATO constitution and making it pointless.napshnap wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 11:22 amBeing in a position of "bigger brother" couldn't they then make concessions (I guess there is a better word for it, but you get it) for the sake of "the world peace" like how they stuffing the "black hole" with weaponry, flushing billions down the toilet now?

I thought it was more about a defence that an accounting and bureaucracy).Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 11:38 amNATO's not in a big brother position and allowing corrupt states to join is more than a concession, it's ripping up the NATO constitution and making it pointless.napshnap wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 11:22 amBeing in a position of "bigger brother" couldn't they then make concessions (I guess there is a better word for it, but you get it) for the sake of "the world peace" like how they stuffing the "black hole" with weaponry, flushing billions down the toilet now?

But alright, Russia was too "ugly" to be accepted by the "prom queen", I get it.
“NATO currently recognises Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia & Ukraine as aspiring members as part of their open doors enlargement policy.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_states_of_NATO
NATO “recognising” Ukraine as an aspiring member is very much part of the problem, Russia simply can’t allow Ukraine to become a NATO member.
Russia would suddenly have to defend approximately 2700 miles (I may have remembered that wrong) of border & live with the threat that NATO can hit the Kremlin with or without a nuclear payload within 5 minuets.
Ukraine known as the “Bread basket” is for some reason, even though (as pointed out above) as corrupt as they might be are being recognised by NATO. I’d definitely change recognised with encouraged though.
I wonder why & for the life of me I can’t think why Russia would feel threatened.

The Russian argument that it cant border with countries who have Nuclear weapons is rather stupid. It has a border with North Korea and that guy is a complete nut job. How come Russia doesnt invade them ?
