On reflection, you may be right. :)

Whist we are talking about a very, very small percentage of Betfair's customers, it doesn't follow that they are few in number.

I wouldn't be surprised if BF turn out like Bernard Madoff

We'll all log on one morning and our accounts will be empty

Great minds...I have just withdrawn 90% of my funds and I am going to look at other avenues. I will still trade but I fail to see why I should leave my money with Dick Turpin and his crew!

There is no future for people making a living on Betfair now :( , as a hobbie to make a few extra quid it's fine, but they clearly dont want long term winners and will continue to squeeze us until we are all gone.

Im done with betfair now, if i carn't make it pay on Betdaq then, i will do something else with my time

Just opened an account with betdaq and installed betangel for betdaq, took half my funds out, once they arrive I will take the rest out and load the lot into betdaq, think there is now a strong case to get betangel for betdaq available commercially and up to date!

I don't disagree Freddy, but I'm completely at a loss to understand why?

The top traders already supply BF with great income, and are very important for providing liquidity.

I just can't understand why they are trying to close these people down

Out of morbid curiousity, I emailed Betfair to ask the question. Surprisingly, they gave me a direct answer:

'The new Premium Charge approximately only affects 500 of our most profitable customers'.

i dont believe this,

thats a LIFETIME 250 !!!

its not per year it will effect way more people we need from betangel to update the platform for betdaq

Late getting back from shopping and had to check the date as thought it must be April 1st and this was a wind up but it seems not!

Surely people won't be able to just suck this increase up. While it is unlikely to affect huge numbers those that it does affect are surely significant players in the market, not all of them will be but many will be surely and also many will be those providing a lot of the liquidity.

60% just makes it not worth it any more, it was good while the party lasted but that's it for making a living from Betfair now. It is either Betdaq or Finiancials I guess.....

I hope Betdaq realise just how big an opportunity Betfair have handed them, and act accordingly...

They have always said the winners take money out of the betting pool which never returns and therfore they have to spend a fortune attracting new customers all the time.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but they clearly don't want winners for some reason :( .

It never stops. PC, then XM, now PC2.

For those who might be interested, this is the futures trading thread in the Financial Markets section... viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2768.

If anyone's interested in trying their hand at spread betting, this is the best system I've come across (by some distance): http://www.blackdogforex.com/

PeterLe dummy traded it for a week, and made a nice profit.

Im not one of these people yet, but im not a million miles away either, it's not that much to people who are making a living long term imo, im supprised there is not more though, but i also wouldn't belive a word they say to be honest so who knows.

Doesn't really matter to me how many there are anyway, this just makes it clear there is no future in trading with betfair. It's clear now they are going to kill off all of the long term winners sooner or later.

Hi Freddy

I'd be wary of drawing any firm conclusions about Betfair's motivations or the future of trading on Betfair.

Betfair's thinking is possibly simply 'These guys are earning far more from our site than they probably would be able to in the world of work, even after the new charge has been applied, so they'll keep coming back.'

And if they're right, then the landscape will probably remain unchanged for the vast majority of traders...
