I'm looking to set up a VPS so I can test bots without having my laptop on all day when I'm out at work.

What sort of minimum specs do I need to test bots that don't rely on super fast speed advantage and could place bets within 1s or so of my conditions being met? Can anyone recommend a cheap VPS?

I know BA has their own VPS for serious traders that need a fast ping and higher specs, but are there any cheaper options just to get me started with practice mode/£1 stakes?

I'd suggest Simply https://www.simplyhosting.com/vps - no surcharge for Windows these days or Amazon AWS if you can make sense of their pricing structure

I happily run multiple BA instances on Server 2012 with 4GB dual core with 40GB storage - Guardian + Excel

Even a home connection can respond and place bets a lot quicker than a second. VPS is faster still.

Whats the problem with leaving your laptop on when at work?

The main issue is that sometimes it randomly shuts off. I would rather set things up the night before and leave it than have to do it in the morning or leave it on all night and day which will probably wear the components out, and there's always a small worry of it causing a fire or someone breaking in to bet on horses at Ffos Las, or even logging onto BetAngel forum and posting in rant corner using my name.

VPS certainly have their advantages and are probably even more viable because of the reduced electricity bill these days
