Truss plans to stop doctors from leaving the NHS - armed soldiers at every hospital and GP surgery will escort them home and guard them overnight, before taking them back to work the next day.

Energy price cap next April could reach £6000 :o
If we could channel your bleak view we could power the nation. :-)
Only joking, but it's such a shit show right now. Haven't felt so despondent about our future for decades. I thought getting old was supposed to show how great humanity is.

There was a Daily Mail cartoon back in the eighties.

Michael Foot: If we get elected we'll have to scrap our defence forces!!!

Dennis Healey (with eyebrows floating off his head): Don't worry, with rubbish like that in the manifesto we won't get elected.

I think you'll have Conservatives having that discussion for real at the next election. :D

Don't shoot the messenger, it was on the BBC website. :D

And to be more bleak, no point in fixing the symtoms, you have to fix the problem, however dangerous that may be. Putin needs to go asap, he is probably making more money from the energy crisis he created than all the sanctions put together. There should be back channels, talking to Russians at the highest level who want him gone. There is already a growing number in Russia who are asking where their sons, husbands, uncles and grandads are. Hundreds of graves have been dug up in Ukraine, full of Russian dead piled on top of each other. Whats left of them have been put into plastic bags and held in old railway carts awaiting transportation back to Russia. It was pretty bleak viewing.

TBH I'm a bit surprised how hard BJ tried to stay. The issues facing his successor are probably worse than he faced. Covid was (is still for some) awful, but Ukraine, climate, levelling up (which I believe will re-branded and quietly disappear off the agenda), labour shortages, making brexit work, inflation and subsequent strikes. It's a real dog's breakfast.

I think we need to declare a national emergency, budget and legislation. Borrow £200 billion from the Bank of England over 5 years at 0%.

Then:

- PM goes on TV and makes a national address. Explain the dire financial situation the country is in.
- Do what they would do in Switzerland in such circumstances, national vote on how to spend the countries finances and in what areas.
- Lower the retirement age to 60 for men and women.
- Raise the pension from £183 to £250 per week.
- Give everyone a 10% pay rise. If they reject it then sack them plus no unemeployment benefits paid.
- Assainate Putin and his crownies.
- Bring back Step Toe and Son.

Feel free to vote for me as PM. :D

Genius. Speshly 60 retirement age and bigger pension.
Can we have a ban on political correctness and wokism - regulated by the BA forumites?

Well, by definition if we bring back Step Toe & Son then political correctness would have to be banned.

We should also bring back Porridge, It aint half hot mum, Rising damp, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Allo Allo, Benny Hill and the flumps. And Kiefer Sutherland should be made to make another series of 24.

Somehow I dont think I going to get many votes.

You forgot "Till death us do part". :-)
TBH I think the worst TV series for non-PC was "Mind your language". Dripping with racial stereotypes. And worst of all it wasn't funny at all.
Well' the worst unless you count footage of the likes of Jim Davidson (pre his conversion to alternative comedy) or Bernard Manning et al.

Cost of living crisis is a gift to Labour with Starmer coming out on top in a poll of who commands the most confidence to tackle it.

I haven't a clue what Tory members see in her over Sunak.
Is it really just tax cuts means money in my pocket - sod everyone else?
Is it racism or shortism against Sunak?
One thing has emerged though is she blurts stuff out that her team then have to desperately try to spin into something positive.
But I don't see a leader for the UK in any party. I'm seriously thinking of moving to Scotland. At least Sturgeon is crystal clear about her agenda.

The Tory membership is white, well off, right of centre and thinks Truss is Thatcher's daughter or reincarnation.

Truss is not about so called handouts, nor was Thatcher, afterall she nicked free milk off the young ones, which didn't cost the state/tax payers much anyway. They both believe/believed in a citizen making their own way in life with very little state help or intervention. Work hard, work harder to earn more, climb the ladder to your own home. If your unemployed, part-time worker, homeless or have mental health issues then its kind of down to you to resolve. Stop moaning about the cards life has dealt you and get on with it. Thatcher would have told Macron to fcuk off ages ago if she was around, like Truss wanted to do, you could tell when she was asked the question. Don't forget, Thatcher basically told the US president, Ronald Reagan to fcuk off when he asked her not to go to war with Argentina over the falklands.

Both Truss and Thatcher have very similar mindsets, Truss will try and crush public sector workers who go on striking, much as did Thatcher with the miners and others.

Thatcher, Truss, Sir Winston and Boris (Sorry Derek) are the type of PM you need or thrive in time of War but not for running a country on a day to day basis. Actually very few PM or Presidents are good at doing both, history shows that.

So, to cut a long story short, will Truss be good for the country, NO, unless we suddenly find ourselves at War. Some believe that's why Thatcher actually went to War with Argentina because she knew her grip was starting to slip running the country even after just 3 years. Thats a long time in politics.

Sunak is probably the best out of the 2 for knowing what to do on energy and actually helping the real people in need like he did with furlough even though some fell through the cracks. If he had of incorperated everyone which Labour, Liberals and SNP wanted him too then there would have been even more furlough fraud. Personally, i think he did the best he could at the time and it was one of the best support packages offered anywhere in the world barring Switzerland and Singapore.

The next 2 years are going to be crippling for millions. The Tory membership are pretty much immune from financial disaster, so will go with what they think is 'Mrs T' part 2.

But to me, sorry Greenmark and others, no point in sticking plasters, you need to do deal with the real problem or elephant in the room. Meaning, get rid of Putin and his select few asap otherwise the same energy crisis will happen across Europe in 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027 etc. And that would mean an awfull lot of borrowing, probably £1 trillion or so. That can't be allowed to go on.

With all these billions the UK, Europe and the World are having to pay, far easier to divert all that money into military ways of taking Putin out quickly. Cut the head off the snake and it will fall. So will the Russian army, whats left of it.

I am a tory voter and have been since I was 18 but I think Truss is going to cause an absolute disaster.

You can't "get rid of Putin". Only Russian's can do that.
