One thing that kind of puzzled/worried me was one of the FA's justifications for cancelling games was due to the "understandable" reallocation of police resources. Were they expecting riots from supporters of a woman that epitomised correctness and selfless (albeit pampered, privileged) public service.
Yes, in Edinburgh the police were put on mandatory 12hr shifts, which could last 15/16hrs without a break. They are expecting it to continue for next 5 days or so until the crowds die down.

==> zero capacity to manage footy...

edit - I blame the bbc for this
So I've been a bit thick here haven't I? Its simple increased policing required for unusually large crowds, of which there appear to be many.
I get it. Soz.

This never even crossed my mind as a possibility but apparently there were also fears over football fans disrespecting tributes to the Queen : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footb ... -halt.html

Because there was already trouble at a Europa League Conference match with circulating videos of Shamrock Rovers fans celebrating the Queen's death : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sport ... death.html

flipping BT, not only do they miss the first 15 minutes of the Inter/Torino match, they actually schedule to miss it!!

You'd think somebody working for BT with a passing interest in football would tell them a match starts at the kick-off!

That's pretty disgusting, I wouldn't even celebrate Thatcher's death if she died in power (although many people did despite the fact she was an elderly woman), but it also shows how farcical the monarchy is if they feel a large chunk of 50,000 people will start booing her.

I just wish Andrew was the oldest son and became King Andrew - monarchy over! :D

I think the mood is that they would not. I would be staggered of Hibs or Celtic fans showed anything but respect. Hope I haven't jinxed it there. But the lady's grace, dignity and dedication gained respect across all sorts of boundaries. As Gazuty's post eloquently said. We shall see and hope respect wins out.

While watching the Inter match I had completely forgotten that the Queen died. Luckily the match ended with a quick reminder.

I just switched on Sky News and thought they were showing a replay of King Charles shaking hands with his worshipers, but no, it was a newly recorded round of handshaking with a fresh bunch of worshipers!

When I die I hope the British public is subjected to 10 days of non-stop documentaries about my life, repeated every 5 minutes!

For people who read this forum, they already are!

I particularly like the story of when the supermarket ran out of your favourite flavour of pot noodle. Far more interesting than any of the stories relating to The Queen.

It's not been as bad as thought it would be. And it's been nice not having adverts on commercial channels. It was quite surprising that capitalism found the good grace to have a hiatus.

It's funny though that on Spanish TV they've always called her Isabel II and they've been announcing our new King Carlos III. And more coverage than expected, she was a big deal..... But one less reason now to trade with brand Britain?

That was interesting, it's "Isabel" not just because it's their name equivalent, it's in respect as 'El' in Elizabeth can be misheard as a masculine prefix.

Oddly enough the first world leader to congratulate King Charles III was Vladimir Putin : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... emony.html

We could really do with a major flood, terrorist attack, plane crash, anything to change the news. :x
