I find Twitter depressing to be honest. I don't bother looking at what's trending anymore because whatever the topic its usually just very shouty people throwing insults at each other.
Twitter is a cesspool platform of social media, I only check my feed for football lineups and that's it.

Reddit is infinitely superior, anything useful or informative gets posted and upvoted there so you don't miss out on anything and certainly don't have to sift through all the garbage. It's not "instant news" but if news is important enough it will reach you one way or another.

Bath leaking through the ceiling. Removing and replacing silicon sealant is one of those jobs I REALLY hate !

When the leak is above another persons home is when it becomes tricky.

Yeah, I had a dickhead student above me who went out with his shower running. Had to call the landlord out. Didn't even get an apology from the student!

Grammarly tried to change the first sentence to: Yeah, I had a dickhead student above me who ran out with his shower.

I don't even have a Twitter account, I've just bookmarked a few like the Betfair helpdesk.

There's no need to go down to London to pay your respects to the queen. Sky will be televising it 24/7.

I wouldn't like to be one of those guards standing by the coffin. How many hours do they have to stand still before being replaced?

I have been bombarded WITH Grammarly ads on YouTube for years now (possibly 10 years) and always thought it a very useful aid, maybe I should explore further now I know Derek is using it. :D

I use the free version. The issue I have with it is that it doesn't have an informal setting. If I say "Cat caught a mouse" it tries to insert "The" at the beginning of the sentence. It credits me for all the spelling mistakes of people I quote and some of its suggested grammar corrections look dubious to me.

I thought it was for people writing in a non-native language? I didn't know systems were sophisticated enough to understand the nuance and context a native speaker imparts. And from what Derek says, they aren't.

I hope it doesn't mean everyone will be writing in Americanese now

It allows you to select your brand of English, but the free version at least doesn't have the Microsoft Office customizations, writing styles, ignoring rules, etc.

The queen was ten years old when her uncle abdicated and she must have been told she'll one day have to be queen. That sort of thing was the norm in previous centuries when kings would marry off their daughters to establish political alliances. It may even have been normal in the mid-20th century, but today it amounts to child abuse, in my opinion. Imagine how you would feel. No ten-year-old child should be subjected to that level of pressure.

Yet, instead of being appalled by the monarchy's treatment of children caught up with it, supporters of the monarchy are welcoming in a new king and carrying on the tradition.

What exactly is the difference between a medieval king giving another king's son permission to marry his six-year-old daughter when she's older, to allowing a nation to have a ten-year-old girl as a duty-bound queen, whether she likes it or not, when she's older?

It's a great shame Charles didn't walk away from the royal family at a young age like his son Harry did. Then we could have King Andrew the Inprosecutable (against sexual allegations). :D

A small celery stick? FFS, how many inches is a small celery stick? Why don't you just say a celery stick as long as your dick??

An onion peeled. Is that a small or large onion and do you think I'm stupid enough to use an onion without peeling it?

Next you'll be saying a banana peeled!

I think The monarchy should die with Her Majesty The Queen. They have become now little more than celebrities , fodder for the newspapers. And we are expected to bow to these people, our betters

Judging by your forum history (consistent Tory voter from aged 18) you are playing devil's advocate here. I am an anti-monarchist but not a foaming at the mouth one.
