The problem for the Tories is that after 2016 there was a lurch to the right in the party. By 2019 election they had sidelined virtually anybody with a bit of common sense, and now we are seeing the results. People you wouldn't put in charge of matching your socks after washing are in the charge of the economy

Boris Johnson was anything but right leaning on the economy, he was profligate and wasteful. How many brands of Toryism have we had in 12 years? and none of them have worked.

John Major post Black Wednesday debacle was very good for economy with Kenneth Clarke as was Brown and Blair unil 2008 global economic crash upended them.

In 2019 Johnson sidelined anyone who wasn't going to blindly follow the hard Brexit agenda. Only sycophants were allowed. The result was a cabinet with the likes of Raab, Patel, Truss etc. in high office. A disaster we are now seeing play out before our eyes....

A decent bet may be Truss to be the shortest serving PM in history 👌

She's only got to last beyond the 3rd of January.

Quite brave of Starmer to remind a Liverpool audience that he's an Arsenal fan.

Labour MP suspended after calling the chancellor superficially black.

At least Starmer suspended her immediately. Johnson would have defended her and then promote her to equalities minister.

Seriously though, it's quite shocking to see a woman of Asian origin, who I'd presume will have suffered racist abuse herself, attacking a man for being black.

Starmer promising "carbon-free electricity by 2030". Really?
What cheeses me off with politicians is they spout this stuff with no detailed plan for how they're going to achieve it.
And, of course, I know a party conference lectern is no place for detail but in my experience they never fill in the detail.
We're just left with "aspirations", "wishes", it's just flim-flam.
The more info they provide the better it would be for them and us. Democracy might be able to work properly if they did describe how they are going to deliver these promises.

He's thinking of the 2028/29 election. ;)

Most people blame the energy crisis on Russia or war in Ukraine, Lord Marland blamed Ukraine.

I bet Starmer was fuming after she made that remark. As you say, rather strange coming from her.

IMF warn the government to reverse tax cuts. They're buggered now. Either make the biggest u-turn in history or drag the country into the gutter, they can't say they weren't warned.
