They really need to change the party leader rules. At the moment it's civil war between MPs and party members.

Hes a bit like Trump in that regard. He wont go away and will be hanging around in the background for yearsDerek27 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 30, 2022 3:08 pmJohnson's just tweeted about Putin's speech as though he's still PM and people are interested in what he thinks. Obviously trying to show he would be tougher on Russia than Truss.
The Tories have cut taxes for the richest in society so it's only fair and reasonable that they cut real-term benefits for the poorest.
I think they know their time's up and they want to enjoy their last few months, but the red wall MPs won't be happy.

If Truss is safe for 12 months after election from a no-confidence vote due to party rules, and it's doubtful her front bench would turn on her as they're all loyalists (not job suited, just loyal to her)....then whatfor the UK economy until she achieves the no-confidence vote on her 1st anniversary/eligibility date? Just plateau and the sterling meanders a smidgen, while bread, milk, petrol all increase?
The proper budget in November/October or whenever it is, would want to have some serious figures in it to account for the giveaway last week. I'm not on twitter anymore, but if someone could tweet direct Kwasi and Liz to the Martingale threads on this forum then they might learn a tiny teeny bit and stop trying to borrow their way into prosperity

I keep hearing the phrase, if the Conservatives want to get rid of their leader they will. They did it with Johnson the Indestructible, eventually, the 1922 committee could change their rules at any time so she's not safe for 12 months, or they could rebel and refuse to vote in the next budget. I don't know if it's ever happened but I heard no government can continue if they can't get a budget through parliament.Dublin_Flyer wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 1:42 pmIf Truss is safe for 12 months after election from a no-confidence vote due to party rules, and it's doubtful her front bench would turn on her as they're all loyalists (not job suited, just loyal to her)....then whatfor the UK economy until she achieves the no-confidence vote on her 1st anniversary/eligibility date? A senior minister says the UK is living in a fool's paradise because of the size of the welfare state.
So not having to work and living a life of luxury on £80 or whatever it is now a week is paradise - that justifies cutting benefits.

The welfare state costs around £230 billion. Most people don’t realise that £115 billion is spent on the state pension. Which is probably one of the worst in Europe.
The other £115 billion is spent on universal credit, disability benefit and social care.
The above does not include cost of running the NHS.
I have long thought, for decades, that the sums don’t add up. Not even sure why the UK is in the G7. People keep saying the UK is a rich country but when you drill down the income/expenditure, it’s not.
If you were to take away income from financial services then on paper the UK would be fcuked.
We are just a small island nation living beyond its means.

'Larry' lives at Number 10 and has no owner. He claims its his house and the various PM's are his lodgers.
I only know all this because I follow him on Twitter
