Hello everyone,
I have been attempting the 'back to lay' strategy but have run into a problem.
Everything appears to be set up correctly, with all of the horses layed at selected odds (I chose 3).

I have ensured that I've used the 'keep' option so that the selections are kept in play,
and the Green box is ticked.

Quite a few times now I've been at the point of profit (all green) only to find that when I hit the button under trade
profit heading the odds continue to move and it doesn't actually trade out of the position. At this point the odds have then gone out and I have lost what should have been a profitable situation.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is there a solution.

Thank you all.

Betfair apply a delay to all in-play bets, the delay length depends on the sport (see link below) some might have changed slightly since that list was made but for horse racing it is still 1 second (and all delays are doubled if using stakes below the Betfair minimum)

So when greening up or placing any bet in play you may not always be matched and might need to re-submit the bet especially if its near the end of the race and the prices are volatile and jumping about

Ah thank you, I appreciate your help.

I guess that this delay makes using this strategy considerably more risky especially given that the odd
shorten on the favourites right at the end of the race.

Thanks again!

Easiest in the first half of longer races. And soon we'll have the jumps and mud and all the swings of fortune that goes with that which is good. A fairly harmless nose in the mud at the first few fences always makes punters take panic prices.

Re the delay, its only on bet placement and not when cancelling your offers, so that's something to think about. And the delay is the same for everyone so it's risk but stake according to expected volatility and you should be OK.
