The forthcoming real-terms reduction in government spending looks "set to be bigger than in the 2010s".
That’s dire for the less well off.
A black hole of £45 billion and the markets won’t allow the UK to borrow its way out of trouble without significant cuts to public spending. Well, they will but at seriously high interests rates making the situation worse.
Labour may well be in power for 2 parliaments but unlikely to fix the problems until near the end. And that’s assuming no more unplanned expenditure due to more Covid or any other disasters.
Global interest rates were rising anyway, world recession is looming, UK will be first in and last out.
Going to be allot of suffering and deaths along the way.

Energy support to end April 2023.
The funding is not £45 billion but £70 billion. Back austerity part 2.

The UK is in dire trouble. I am 58 and lived through the seventies when things were really bad. This crisis could get even worse.
We are where we are due to consecutive governments, both red and blue, concentrating on short term policies to get re-elected. We have no reserve gas storage. the war in Ukraine is really damaging us, and interest rates are going to rise big time which is tragic for the youth who are going to find it almost impossible to own their own homes.
As long as Putin is allowed to continue, the West is gonna feel the economic pressure. Got to end this war somehow.

Not end, but a Treasury-led review to decide how to help those most in need from apr 23. Fair enough.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 17, 2022 10:57 amEnergy support to end April 2023.

So far he hasn't made a mistake. Truss and Kwarteng had made numerous mistakes by this point.
The markets seem to approve too.
