Romelu Lukaku accumulated more xG in the second half against Croatia (1.98) than Morocco did in the entire Group Stage (1.35).

When I said "definitive moment" when Lukaku came on I wasn't suggesting he would transform things. I was saying this was the moment that will decide Martinez's future. Hazard also. And they both failed.
I like Martinez. If you cut him, little footballs come bouncing out. Interviews I've seen suggest he can talk the hind leg off a donkey about the intricacies of football. But it's obvious his time at Belgium is over.
A move back into the Premier League maybe?
I'd iike that. If he could get a group to follow his philosophy it could be quite enteraining. But it seems wherever he goes he's so nice that the nasty cynical side of footballers eventually pops up and wrecks the project.

Stephanie Frappart is to be the first bird to referee a WC match, Costa Rica v Germany. :D

For all the talent Martinez had at his disposal since becoming Belgian manager, his tenure can't be viewed as anything other than a failure

In for a treat on ITV4, two female assistant refs as well. I was getting ready to watch Spain v Japan.

Chelsea should take him if they aren't happy with Graham Potter...but they will expect immediate returns.

If he couldn't hack it at Everton, I wouldn't fancy his chances at Chelsea

The way things are going at Everton, they may welcome him back. (He may have learned a few things since those early days)

@ Half time shows no surprises on the stats. Maybe Germany deserve a second goal.

Japan equalizes and is on the same points/goals as Germany. They should have fair play points in the league table.

My experiment to lay most of the favs to win their group was pretty disastrous, looks a likely 100% loss.
I'll eat Japanese food for the rest of the year if they can do it. :D

Spain surviving on goal difference only at the moment. Who'd have thought that.
