so was doing okay in little ammounts with lay to back...just a few quid per race a a beginner was quite happy...BUT...i have had 3 wire to wire races in my markets today which has more or less wiped me out...how can i stop that scenario happening, am i missing something in my automation...hope you can help

Drink a cup of tea, relax, dont trade for a few days. After that, with a fresh unemotional look, check if that was by mistake or if it's your strategy fundamental flaw.

It's a tough money management lesson. Never have more than say 20% of your bank at worst risk (10% as a beginner) , and a planned loss of much less than that, 2 or 3% max. Loses happen and sometimes long streaks of them and you need the amno to ride them out. And with lay to back there's always a good chance you won't get your back bet matched because with winter jumping they can go nose first
fast.

Just keep your stakes really small for now, and if you show a profit over a couple of months (maybe 1-200 races) then you can always scale up. But if you run out of money now that can't happen. We've all paid to learn mistakes in the early days but you choose how much that costs.

Hmm, interesting guys, so synthesising what Shaun said and Gazuty posted (great reading btw) - if you have a skill/an edge (and this is the prerequisite) you shouldnt let variation to "wear down" (though it's better to say "knock down") your bank.
It's kinda obvius but in a same time has a certain depth in it. Beautifly simple).

Not sure I heard that before, so learned a new word today as well Some of these archaic words are much more expressive than newer made up words, you really do have a beautiful and rich language that is honestly a joy to use.

But not sure how OP expects help on what his automation is missing based on the info provided.

What a lovely thing to say about our mongrel language, I'm always surprised so many 'proud Brits' don't feel that way too and learn more than 20% of it; or actually arrange the words according to any sort of rules.

Archaic? Crestfallen is in fairly common usage, but they don't use it much, the football commentators. Like Yoda they speak, annoying it is.

But slightly more seriously I think the lazy way English language is taught these days prevents Brits from learning other languages. They find they have to conjugate verbs and often don't even know what conjugation or verb means.

As an English graduate and someone who despairs at the creep of US-English (as opposed to King's English), I find myself warming to you, Shaun.

I believe those of us who attended Grammar schools, or sat English at Ordinary level (O' Level) have a rather more sophisticated vocabulary than the millennials and their GCSEs... With some bright exceptions, naturally.
