Stirred by that post about eggs I was actually curious enough to go and look why I've never seen any white eggs for many years.

About 40 years ago, people decided that they didn’t like the look of white eggs, so brown eggs were the ones sent to supermarkets for selling, and white eggs were reserved for restaurants and cafes aka where customers wouldn’t seem them in their shells.

Sounds plausible. :D

I must be thick. What difference does the colour of an egg shell make? An egg is one of the most wonderful food sources we have. What difference does the colour of the shell make? :-)

No difference whatsoever greenmark but I wanted to know why I've not seen any white eggs for many years and now I do. Furthermore I don't need your approval either for any of the shite I may post here.

The breed of chicken determines the shell colour. Strangely (or not) white chickens lay white eggs and brown ones lay brown. I guess the most productive breed is brown?

But tastes change, my old mum didn't want 'mucky brown ones' but these days brown is seen as natural and healthy.

That's racist! ;)

When you said white eggs I though you meant eggs without yokes. They're very rare but I think very young hens lay them.

You're lucky to find eggs of any kind at the moment.
It is getting worse each day, problem here they past a law that you can't have caged eggs, they rushed the law and two big producers couldn't meet the deadline. So now the law is the chickens will have to be killed. I am against caged hens but surely there has to be a better solution than to put down 30,000 chickens

My mrs works from home. I can’t get anything delivered without her opening it or asking what’s inside.

I thought the colour of the shell was determined by the type of grit they eat

That is bonkers, surely they can be eaten. The problem over here is bird flu.

Nice compliment from Harry about his step-mother. He says she's not evil.

My apologies I have caused offence where I didn't intend to. I was trying to say I was puzzled by the difference in egg shell colour and what, if any, difference it makes.
And it appears it makes no difference at all. Although I think I might treat a black or orange egg with care.
Anyhow sorry again for my cumbersome way of communicating. One day I'll master this online stuff. Perhaps.

No worries it was a storm in a thimble, rather than a storm in an eggcup. :)

I've just been for two teeth out today, bridge being fitted in 3 weeks and had my wallet relieved of £3,200  £400 if it was sedation though because I don't respond to local anesthetic which has been unbearable at NHS dentists as they don't offer sedatives. I'd had 3 aborted extraction attempts with the NHS with a shakey dentist who's breath smelled of whiskey. One of those days you're thankful to be able to afford it, or the kid's inheritance fund can anyway.

Out of interest what type of sedation did you get ?

I remember as a kid having to go to the dentist in the local hospital. He also had a shaky hand and thought that anesthetic was optional for children. He was so incompetant he couldnt even inject the anestetic correctly when he did use it. Needless to say I have had a phobia of dentists for years!

I broke my arm aged 11. I was in A&E for several hours and they needed to give me a general so they could reset the break. Having had 6 covid/flu jabs without even being aware that they'd jabbed me , it mystifies me how the halfwit 50 years ago took three goes to complete the job.
