Just dropped in to see what the views on MOTD were
3-4 pages were moved from here earlier as the majority of the messages went off-topic and onto immigration and politics with no mention of MOTD, Football or even Lineker
I'll have you know I did mention Lineker in my political rant

In other news, I offically give up on Liverpool this season. I have to seriously question the mentality monsters psycological state...
:)

Until we pull out another miracle and beat Madrid 0-4 at the Bernabeu in a few days :P

I've moved all the recent immigration and political posts to a relevant forum to keep this one on the topic of football
Probably just as well, Dallas. Apologies if I muddied the waters.

It appears that MOTD will now be just 20 minutes of football highlights without commentary. Looking forwards...

Time is becoming a bigger issue. In the Bristol City v Blackpool game Madine (I think) got injured within seconds of the kick-off he wenr down inches from the touchline. He then rejoied the game and at an appropriate moment collapsed to the floor while the sub stripped, dressed, got instructions. It does need looking at. I used to play squash and 5-a-side. In both there is a basic tenet - play is continuous.

Just watching the EFC v Brentford Sky highlights and that goal is a beauty. No outside in swerve just "bang" side net, pick that one out!

Not even sure which thread to put this on but surely they would have been better off scrapping MOTD altogether than having a 20-minute programme.

As for Final Score, you never needed pundits for that.

Thoroughly enjoyed MOTD. You pick up more with your own observations than listening to a commentator distracting you with some pointless drivel.

Going forward they'll save us, the tax payers, squillions on pointless wages by continuing without the "experts" reviewing how the players; "Did triffic on the wing, it's a game of two halves, they played individually and collectively, quality this quality that, they're in trouble with relegation...."

Agree, bring back the results board and vidiprinter.

However, I think Holly Hamilton should get the gig if I had to compromise...

Might get interesting next weekend if not resolved as BBC have exclusive coverage of FA Cup.

I said yesterday it wouldn't surprise me see them increase, but that's a huge jump of 25% on usual figures and far more than I expected to see

Looks like forum sentiments after my post were echoed across the country, and this morning the BBC are probably now sat thinking why are we wasting millions in tax payers money each year on salaries only for those we are paying to reduce the number of viewers who tune in

Apparently BT and ITV are lining up offers to triple Gary’s BBC income. 😱

Think I saw reports of ITV's offer last night and before viewing figures came out :)

To me this proves there's certainly a good case for just showing solid and extended highlights on MOTD and dropping the presenter/pundits, and create a separate show for them if they thought they could pull in the viewers

I use to love watching "Saint and Greavsie" when I was younger, but that was a dedicated analysis/pundit show (with some good comedy thrown in) and that's what you tuned in for.
People tune into MOTD to see the days highlights not to listen to ex footballers views - so maybe there is a case to look at separating them

I get traditions but MOTD is a bit archaic at this point and doesn't really fit in today's fast-paced world. Watched a season or two in the past but would never find time to watch anymore, no chance.

By the time it comes on people have already forgotten about football and seen what they wanted to see, do they really need all day to cut a few highlights, it's on too late, don't people have to work in the morning etc etc. They need a lot more content than a few scripted seemingly witty lines from Lineker or Shearer's "I thought they were poor" analysis to make it worth.

Give it a revamp or something, run it soon as last match ends or make it part of that last match somehow, look at Monday Night Football.
